Corns on toes.

Why do people develop corns on their toes, and what can be done to treat them. Thank you

I’m not sure of the cause, although years of wearing I’ll-fitting shoes is often blamed. Your chiropodist/podiatrist shoukd be able to remove them.

You can buy corn plasters in chemists etc which are very effective.

I've gone to podiatrists for years and have corns cut out every three months. They tell me they form as a result of pressure. Never any mention of footwear being responsible. My mother had them too. I think I have the same foot shape she had - narrow and boney. Not sure if that increases susceptibility.

Yes SpringyChicken I am also of the “narrow and boney foot tribe” however since I’ve eschewed heals for trainer type or croc type footwear my feet have spread a little bit.

I was on the corn removal merry go round for some time, but had a small operation and luckily not had a problem since. This was twenty years ago.

I’ve got skinny feet, but don’t have ‘corns’, but strangely I just checked with a torch and looks like there’s one developing on my fourth toe.
I didnt have one yesterday 😫 - haven’t been out today, so I’ve been wearing slippers 🤔

I’m currently using the Scholl all in one pen on the corn I’ve had on my little toe for decades. It says ‘no stronger acid for corns !Nothing seems to get rid of it, though. As I’ve got a bunion on my other foot I’m limited in what shoes I can wear.

I've used Carnation corn caps successfully. Usually gets rid of a corn in about 5 days.

I’ve always had to wear sensible shoes and I’ve always had corns. Currently I have one on the end of my 4th toe which gives me gyp if I don’t use a toe raiser.

I’ve had a corn on my little toe for decades. It started when I wore the softest, most comfortable shoes I’ve ever owned but because they were so soft they were also tight fitting. When I went to buy my usual corn remover from Boots it had changed but the new one has worked really well. The corn is still there but it no longer hurts. When I go upstairs I’ll take a picture of it. I have a bunion on my other foot which has limited the sort of shoes I can wear but the corn has caused even more problems as it feels as if a nail is digging into the side of my foot.

I have one between my smallest toes I can’t even see it as it’s on the inside of the second toe I really need to find a podiatrist as it’s quite painful.

The only time I had corns was when I wore badly fitting shoes. I used the corn caps and used sheep's wool too.

Since I started wearing good shoes I've never had them- they can be very painful.

I had a persistent one between the little toe and next one. I doggedly kept digging it out and eventually it gave up & I used corn plasters too. They are due to pressure, shoes, gait, I believe flat or high arches can exacerbate them.

I had one between 2 toes which the chiropodist quickly removed. She also made me a little toe wedge from a ball of silicone type stuff which she put between the toes until it hardened into shape...still very soft though and that has been wonderful. However I have recently lost it so need to go this spring to her shop and get another made. It lasted about 8 years and had I not lost it, would be in use still

This is the corn remover I’m currently using. For the first time in years the corn isn’t hurting me but it does pretty much kill any skin it touches.

I know my corn is caused by the way I walk, so there is always pressure on my little toe no matter what shoes I wear. On the opposite foot I have a callus for the same reason.
I doubt many people walk absolutely upright and straight, I have a twisted spine and needed a hip replacement at 50.
Don’t always blame your shoes.
