I went to a new group that started today at the Age UK Colchester offices at Globe House, George St. It is for everyone who has an interest in family history from the absolute beginner to a seasoned researcher. There is a tea and chat group and a chance for tuition on computer research on a one to one basis!
It would be great if some Gransnetters could come along, just ring the bell and ask for the group. We meet every Monday from 1pm to 3pm - maybe we could meet for lunch beforehand?

Thanks for this: I'll try and come. I get so far with Ancestry but I'm not sure how to use all the features.

I am interested in family history and have done a bit of research into mine. Does anyone run the group? What should I bring with me if I decide to come?

We are still finding our feet with the group. There are six of us so far - a mixture of beginners and more experienced researchers.
The meeting is informal, with tea/coffee and biscuits for £1.
The plan is for those who would like one to one help to be able to book a morning session and for the afternoon session to be less structured.
Paper and pen would be useful. The group has access to a couple of computers with wired internet access - the Wi-Fi is not good!
I think we should come along with our aims and questions and be prepared to go off at a tangent, more fun than serious!
I suggest you come along and give it a try. It is purely a drop in group with no obligation.

I have been asked to point out that the monthly Monday afternoon group is a drop in group with no need to book and is open to all ages, whatever stage of your family research you are at. Absolute beginners and experts are equally welcome.

If you would like some one-to-one help on researching your family using the internet, you can book one hour sessions at a different time to group meetings. These lessons cost just £5 and will give you a good start on your tree. Please phone 01206 368420 for more information or to book.
