Beach hazard for dogs

Many people from Colchester Borough and further afield, visit Mersea to walk their dogs on the beach. If you are one of those people, please read:

A white substance that has washed up on Mersea beaches recently. It is understood this could be unprocessed palm oil which is harmless to humans but can be highly toxic to dogs. Please therefore be vigilant if you plan to walk your dog on Mersea this weekend. I understand two labradors have already become ill - one fatally, through ingesting it. The 'palm oil' was allegedly dumped out at sea and has found it's way on to beaches along the south coast and further afield.
