Somofus has received over 600,000 responses to its invitation to send a Thank You card to Starbucks for supporting gay marriage. We shall overcome!

That'll be a big help.

I knew I could count on your support in this struggle for equality.

Our GN logo really says it all, doesn't it, Greatnan! smile

I've just chosen the card for it Greatnan - what a fabulous result in so few days smile

wotsamashedupjingl Mon 02-Apr-12 18:43:03

Carol you're not going to!!! grin

Starbucks are only after everyone's custom. (nothing wrong with that, just don't be taken in)

Carol Mon 02-Apr-12 18:49:25

I don't mind what their motivation is Jingl - I'm just pleased that so many have given the issue a high profile smile

Costa Coffee gets my money, by the way!

Greatnan Mon 02-Apr-12 18:54:06

I don't really think you need to be worried about either Carol or myself being taken in, Jingle. We are both fairly mature and savvy! smile
I wouldn't dream of paying Starbuck prices for coffee but this is a very worthwhile campaign.

I know. But ............. thank you cards?! confused

grin

Carol Mon 02-Apr-12 19:01:57

All part of giving the issue oxygen!

wotsamashedupjingl Mon 02-Apr-12 19:04:31

Think of the recycling bags! shock

And all the staff they'll have to take on to open them all. (Actually that's not bad!) smile

Carol Mon 02-Apr-12 19:11:30

It'll just be one card presented to Starbucks HQ in Seattle on behalf of the 600,000 plus people who wanted them recognised for supporting the issue.

wotsamashedupjingl Mon 02-Apr-12 19:15:21

Oh! I thought you'd been out and bought one! Durrr !

Don't mind me. hmm grin

I do pay for a starbucks coffee when in the States as they are very often in a bookshop where I can choose any book/magazine to read to my hearts content and then just replace it. I've had some very enjoyable hours doing that.
The card is a great idea.
I'd give my eye teeth for one just around the corner from here. grin

Me too - Starbucks in Barnes and Noble near Times Square, New York - a great place to sit in comfort and watch the world go by, read a few chapters of a book, and keep filling up on lovely fresh coffee. I've even had forty winks in there smile

Butternut Mon 02-Apr-12 20:39:43

Oh! Barnes & Nobel - great bookshop, great concept - just love it.

Sometimes, just sometimes the Americans get some things right - this is one of them. smile

gracesmum Mon 02-Apr-12 20:56:06

Unfortunately their coffee isn't.
Bland, weak and overpriced are just 3 possible descriptions.
Great atitude, shame about the coffee.

Carol Mon 02-Apr-12 21:02:39

Overpriced, I suppose so, but when it's in a book shop cafe and you get free entertainment and a nice sit down with a book, I don't mind. I like the way they do my coffee, but I suppose it's a matter of taste - if it's too strong, I'm wired for the rest of the day! grin

Butternut Mon 02-Apr-12 21:05:42

My favourite is an 'Americano' - double expresso with a shot of hot water. Fabulous. What a pity you've had a poor experience gracemum. Haven't been to any Starbucks in England, so can comment, although I rather think they are like MacD's - the same everywhere.grin

I am going to be in France with my caffeine-addicted sister soon and I would like to know how to ask for a latte with an extra shot! My French is reasonable but not being a coffee drinker, I don't know that one.
