Why is it, that since we are surrounded by seawater, desalination plants weren't built years ago?? We never seem to be one step ahead of the game.
Arid countries have been doing this for years!!

We moved into a new house 6 years ago and have a water harvesting system (huge tank under the garden which takes rain from the roof and uses it to flush the loos, for garden hose etc). There is a gauge in the garage that tells you how full the tank is, and in dry weather we are now much more conscious of how much water we are using.

At the moment DH is busy emptying the garden water butts into the harvester tank as he thinks that the water butts overflowing is a waste!

Perhaps we all need to change our attitude to the way we use water.

It's beenpouring down like crazy here! I love the sound of your system Mrs Jam.Jam
I recently enquired about using the grey water from our baths ansd showers to water the garden but I was told it would be too complicated and costly to rig up a system as in our relatively new home all the waste goes down the central system and we have no pipes etc going out through the walls. House is 7 years old. I am amazed.
The only way to do it would be to fill buckets and carry them downstairs. Not b****y likely , not with my knees!

Seriously would it really be beyond the brains of these inventors and engineers to come up with something for such an important issue?
