It wasn't actually meant to happen, but I still feel inordinately proud.

They had taken up positions to see the torch pass by a little way away from the main celebration area so they would get a good view. They did. Then, as they were on bikes, dd1 decided they should tag along at the back of the procession, making use of the closed road to make good time to the main part. Good idea eh?

After very few turns of the pedals they realised they were being clapped, cheered and photographed, including by the press photographer, and people were waving flags at them. I'm not sure whether they waved back.

Later in the day dd1 was congratulated by some other mothers who had seen the parade, along the lines of "Oh, you must be proud that your boys were chosen to represent the Cubs and Scouts". (The weren't in any uniform!). confused

It was just a shame they didn't have any freebies to hand out.
