They have been found guilty this morning.

Sentence is expected to be three years, still waiting to hear.

Makes me value the right to freedom of speech that we have here in the UK. A sad day for human rights in Russia.

Putin is just a horrible man.

Apparently the celebs who got involved may have made things worse as Russia likes to show it is influenced by no outside forces. sad

merlot.

That's a shame. I get FV 80-B.B.C. News F.V.81-B.B.C. Parliament F.V.82- Sky News. F.V.-85 Russia Today News F.V.89-Aljazeera News.

R.T. Today can be a bit anti British but I check in as you get more world news sometimes, as with Aljazeera.

My serious sde says this is yet another example of Putin showing his absolute power and then, well, I heard a bit on PM this evening, and 2 years seems lenient for their caterwauling grin
Sorry , I should take Human Rights more seriously and I do, but if you live in a totalitarian state, you will have a shrewd idea of what the consequences of such action will be. So there are more effective ways of making a protest.

But in a church?????? I'm not religious but there is such a thing as respect

jeni Fri 17-Aug-12 21:00:23

grinagree!

Anne58 Fri 17-Aug-12 20:42:46

Heard an extract of their music on Radio 4 news, bloody awful noise, however to send them to prison seems ridiculous.

On that premise we would be prosecuting one hell of a lot of people even here!

What is that famous quotation, about not liking what someone says, but defending their right to say it?

POGS Fri 17-Aug-12 20:35:50

Anagram.

Phew. This blinking G.N. paranoia. grin

Anagram Fri 17-Aug-12 20:28:39

grin Of course not, POGS - I was only joking! wink

POGS Fri 17-Aug-12 20:23:54

Anagram.

It just appears as part of R.T's news. I hope you don't think I searched it out.

blush

Anagram Fri 17-Aug-12 20:17:15

POGS - I take your point! grin
(re my post I mean - I have no intention of watching obscene images!)

POGS Fri 17-Aug-12 20:12:26

merlotgran.

I did say what they did with it. blush.

Dare I say look for yourself, you'll need to be on your own, in a darkened room with the curtains closed incase the neighbours wonder what you are watching!

goldengirl Fri 17-Aug-12 20:10:22

As someone on the news said, a few years ago the country was atheist! I don't approve of them demonstrating in this fashion in a church whatever country it is and as for Sir Paul and Madonna getting involved, well! One or more of them have children - I wonder what they'll think when they're older. Two years is harsh especially in a Russian gaol I would imagine. We jailed the lad who climbed up the Cenotaph didn't we, although I can't remember the length of sentence. The only difference really is that he was drunk! The girls are certainly getting publicity which is probably what they wanted - but was it because they wanted to be 'famous' or because they felt strongly about Putin?

merlotgran Fri 17-Aug-12 20:00:03

Depends what they'd been trying to do with it, POGS. It probably needed CPR as well.

Why would a live chicken want the kiss of life?

smile

Anagram Fri 17-Aug-12 19:16:39

Do they sell live chickens in Russian supermarkets? confused

merlotgran Fri 17-Aug-12 19:11:07

It wasn't a Bernard Matthews frozen jobbie then? shock

POGS Fri 17-Aug-12 19:09:23

merlotgran.

The chicken wasn't very happy before or after no doubt. Maybe she thought she was giving it the kiss of life?? blush

merlotgran Fri 17-Aug-12 19:03:14

In this country they'd get away with the orgy but the animal rights lot would probably set fire to them grin

POGS Fri 17-Aug-12 18:59:05

I do think it is a bit harsh but did any of you see their antics on Russia Toaday(freeview85).

Heck they held an orgy in a museum and one of them is shown, well, shoving a supermarket chicken where the the sun don't shine. You can still see it today, it has been on that channel for a week now.

The fact is Russia holds their church in a higher esteem than here. I do wonder why when someone has so obviously gone out of their way to shock and be so controversial they should be surprised when their actions catch up with them. Isn't being jailed for their actions a possibility they had planned into the equation.

Good job it was a church had it been a mosque?

Anagram Fri 17-Aug-12 18:55:37

Sorry, I missed that news, merlot - thought they weren't going to be sentenced for a week or so. Yes, I heard Macca was supporting them - and Madonna! hmm

merlotgran Fri 17-Aug-12 18:51:12

hmm I mean

merlotgran Fri 17-Aug-12 18:50:34

They got two years for religious hatred, Anagram but they'll be OK. Macca's on the warpath [--hmm--]

Anagram Fri 17-Aug-12 18:46:19

Well, they haven't actually been sentenced yet...

Humbertbear Fri 17-Aug-12 18:41:51

My seven year old GD said this morning that we are lucky to live in such a nice country. How right she is. Maybe they made a poor choice of venue but this sentence has nothing to do with that - it's Putin and his megalomania. It's simply outrageous.
