His aides have had a word in his ear. I was a fly on the wall!

"You need to do something spectacular for charity, Your Royal Highness as your popularity is at an all time low."
'OK, I'll do a celebrity golf tournament.'
"Sorry, matey sir, that won't do.'
'OK, I'll fly around the world in a private jet. I have loads of rich friends who will sponsor me.
"Nope."
'Um....I could sell tickets for access to Fergie. She'll bore them to death and they'll have to pay double to get out again.'
"Nope."
'Well, do you have a BETTER idea?'
"Funny you should say that, sir." grin grin grin
shock

Nonu Tue 04-Sept-12 11:10:58

Well we all need our sleepies . grin

JO4 Tue 04-Sept-12 10:51:15

Yes Nonu enjoyed it until about 10 minutes from the end - when I went to sleep! Gonna have to go on i-player to find out the ending! hmm grin

susiecb Tue 04-Sept-12 10:41:33

Ok they arent ugly I was actually joking but never mind - I do think ther choice of clothes doesnt put them in the best light - Vivienne Westwood is a hard look to pull off. But anyway when are they going to get a job?

merlotgran Tue 04-Sept-12 10:35:31

OOps! GROW UP, Beatrice, I mean, not you, Hunt blush

merlotgran Tue 04-Sept-12 10:34:05

Sorry, Hunt but I have to disagree. William's cousin turns up wearing a truly ridiculous hat which the photographers made sure was in plenty of shots and was talked about for weeks afterwards. I bet Kate wanted to throttle her and as for selling it for charity? Kept her in the news for a bit longer didn't it? It was nothing more than an attention seeking stunt.....GROW UP angry

Nonu Tue 04-Sept-12 10:33:10

ps i"ve always liked Dennis Waterman since he was in the Sweeney then the Minder .

Nonu Tue 04-Sept-12 10:32:04

Did you enjoy new tricks last night JO4, i sat with dh and we played crib , it"s nice to have a man to sit with , in the evenings isn"T it ? grin

JO4 Tue 04-Sept-12 09:35:25

(that was to do with Max B)

JO4 Tue 04-Sept-12 09:35:05

You are very young Bags. smile

nanaej Tue 04-Sept-12 09:34:28

Bags I agree..the royals certainly do not need defending by the likes of us! They have a huge entourage of PR people to deal with it all. I do not think hurtful comments about personal looks are necessary but surely we can comment on ridiculous choices of clothing and mindless behaviour... there are plenty of those to choose from!

Bags Tue 04-Sept-12 08:47:01

Confession: I didn't know who Max Bygraves was. Still don't.

For the rich lifestyle the Royals get, I think I'd be prepared to put up with a bit of teasing and leg-pulling. Insulting even. They can always abdicate if it gets too much for their tender sensibilities. They don't have to do it hmm

gma Tue 04-Sept-12 08:30:21

I saw a very odd headline yesterday on the internet!!! 'World mourns Max Bygraves'!!!!! I don't think so........... His family will mourn him, close friends will mourn him, but the WORLD-No. I cannot imagine the sub continent having a national day of mourning, or the USA going into a state of mass mourning (Did they even know who he was) Come on head line writers, don't exaggerate, you've been told about it a million times!!!

PRINTMISS Tue 04-Sept-12 07:40:34

I agree with Hunt, the only thing we know about the Royals is what we are told - via the media mostly. They are a family, not in our sense a 'normal' family, but never-the-less, they must have feelings, and although they are no doubt used to some of the stories which are told about them, they might also be outraged and hurt by some of them. I think we are fortunate to have them - what else would we talk about, besides the weather?

Hunt Mon 03-Sept-12 23:28:39

i'm a peaceful soul but I do get a bit irritatexd when people criticize the Royals. We don't know them and they certainly have no chance of defending themselves or answering back. I agree with JO4 the girls are by no means ugly. At least one of them has a sense of humour and definitely had the last laugh with her outrageous ''pretzel'' hat which she sold on ebay for a vast sum of money which she gave to charity.

nanaej Mon 03-Sept-12 19:59:10

grinMamie ha ha!

glitabo Mon 03-Sept-12 19:30:43

Good one Mamie grin

absentgrana Mon 03-Sept-12 18:52:04

They do look very like their father. smile

Anagram Mon 03-Sept-12 18:43:48

Me neither.

JO4 Mon 03-Sept-12 18:39:18

I can't see how they are ugly tbh.

susiecb Mon 03-Sept-12 17:12:08

Oh this made me feel all hot and sweaty when it ws on breakfast news - no PA does not make me feel hot and sweaty heights do though. As for the Ugly Sisters when are they going to get a job?

HildaW Mon 03-Sept-12 14:11:09

Mamie grin

Mamie Mon 03-Sept-12 13:50:28

As nobody has read it in the This Made Me Laugh thread, I shall repeat
.... and when he was only half way up he was neither up nor down...

Bags Mon 03-Sept-12 13:47:09

Abseiling is over-rated. Sit back in a safety harness, stick your legs out to stop yourself banging into the thing you're abseiling down, get lowered on pulleys. Child's play. Still not impressed by Andrew. [humph]

Or his daughters.

absentgrana Mon 03-Sept-12 13:31:44

HildaW I think the Duke of York expected his daughters to play a much more central role in the core part of the Royal Family – and still wants them to. However, HM the Q has obviously decided to focus attention only on the PoW and the Duchess of Cornwall, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry (she may yet change her mind about his inclusion depending on on his future activities), besides The Edinburgh and herself.

Prince Harry seems to have some striking similarities to his uncle what with lap dancers and so on. I wonder if he'll take up international golf. grin

HildaW Mon 03-Sept-12 13:03:10

True Crimson, abseiling is probably not the best idea. For all I know the girls might also already be doing some 'good works' its just that, rightly or wrongly, unlike The Princess Royal's two, William and even 'unfortunate' Harry, my perception of them is of more social butterfly than any thing more useful.
