The Labour Party is launching a commission on older women. My DS has sent me a link to their press release, where they mention Gransnet.

Just wondered what gransnetters thought they ought to concentrate on - and what they're likely to find out?! smile

I think that they are wasting a lot of money..and time. An easier way would have been just to post a thread here and analyse the resulting comments.

It is nothing to do with older women, it is all about middle age women. Older women, 70 - 75 plus are generally not at work, and while they may be caring for grandchildren, most will have older grandchildren and they are very unlikely to be caring for their parents, although they may well be caring for a spouse or sibling. As for older people in the media, we can be seen regularly in adverts for stair lifts, incontinence aids and care homes.

In media and political eyes once you are 70 you aren't a person anymore you are just a burden - on your children, the NHS, on the benefits system. It is conveniently forgotten that most of us have been working and contributing to the common weal for 40 years or more and that most of the people who see us as a burden depended on our taxation to pay for their education, and health care etc as children

It refers to women of 50 and 60, which for younger people means 'older'.

As long as it is Labour money and not public money I don't mind what they do. I rather imagine Arlene Philips will give them something to think about!

I thought a survey published recently showed that most people(of all ages) consider people to be middle aged until they reached 70

I wonder which end they look into first?

I suppose they'll use endoscopes and other such paraphernalia.

I don't want EM looking into me!
