What on earth is the point of posting 'No comment?' Is it intended to imply that you don't agree with another poster? If so, why not just come out and say why you don't agree. Or perhaps it is intended to be amusing?
48 people have died so far and many more have lost their homes and businesses. I have seen the damage and loss caused by a small flood in Yorkshire a couple of years ago but at least there was no loss of power. For anybody who is not able-bodied, it must be hell on earth to try to rip up sodden carpets and if sewage has been spilled the smell is awful.

Thank you for bringing that 'joke' to our attention JO5 - Isn't it awful how some people are so quick to laugh at the misfortunes of others.hmm

Good news indeed, Geraldine. I expect it was harder for the British media to get news from Vietnam.
I am a bit of a jinx - earthquake in Christchurch last time I was in NZ, and bombs in Sharm and Taba soon after I had been.

GeraldineGransnet (GNHQ) Tue 30-Oct-12 21:11:49

Same son was also in a hurricane in Vietnam (he attracts aggressive weather systems) which he says was much worse but didn't get covered at all in the British media.

That's good news Butty. sunshine

Geraldine - Pleased to hear your son is doing ok! I heard from my son today (NJ/CapeMay) and he and family are fine. Phew. smile

Nobody wishes to underestimate the suffering in the Caribbean, but I don't see why our compassion should not extend to people in the USA. It is not an either/or situation.

whenim64 Tue 30-Oct-12 19:20:15

Millions of people with no power, and such devastation along the coastline. I just saw Washington on the news and so much of it is flooded. New Jersey/Cape May all looking terrible. I hope it calms and people can get heir lives back into some semblance of normality soon.

I can't believe what I've just seen on the news. It's like that film [the one I've never seen with Tom Cruise confused]. I like the way that guy wouldn't let the tv reporters interview the people he was taking care of, saying'how''y'thinktheyfeel'!

jO5 Tue 30-Oct-12 19:02:19

I wonder why it was not prioritised on the news when it was going through the Carribean, and many more people were being killed.

janeainsworth Tue 30-Oct-12 18:48:05

Well said Greatnan

GeraldineGransnet (GNHQ) Tue 30-Oct-12 18:45:56

He also said that it was like a fairly bad day on Redcar beach.

hmm Being a bit macho, I think.

GeraldineGransnet (GNHQ) Tue 30-Oct-12 18:43:15

Son number one is there, in lower Manhattan. I called him last night to ask if he'd been evacuated and he said, 'no, I'm in a bar in the Bowery.'

Today he is mainly annoyed that he's had to walk to midtown to get a cup of coffee.

Milking it??? The pictures from NY are horrific. Just imagine having to leave your home , at night, with the roads blocked and no public transport running. It is a horrendous situation and I feel so sorry for them all.

jO5 Tue 30-Oct-12 18:24:29

Yes. It's bad. Every sympathy to those concerned.

But enough is enough!!! They are milking it. hmm

nanaej Tue 30-Oct-12 18:23:21

Poor USA, we were there earlier this year, spent some time in New York and then went down to South Carolina. When they get bad weather they really suffer, looking at the news now, hope they get back to normal before too long same for Haiti and all the other places affected.

JessM Tue 30-Oct-12 15:47:12

And Haiti. Let us not forget.
But i agree NY a mess and it will disrupt city living for weeks or even months.
DH just pointed out that infrastructure over there, like the electrity grid, is not good in the states because it is not regulated and the companies tend to do the minimum.

I'm watching the news in shock, it's absolutely awful. Thinking of those who live in NY.
