That cop should be suspended and / or retrained. He obviously has perception problems. If the man had a retriever guide dog would the policeman have seen a pit bull?

I know it's no laughing matter, but that cop should go to Specsavers.

i'm a retired police officer....these are rare instances.....i worked in a time when all you had was your tongue, fists and a little wooden stick to bring someone in......

This is exactly what worries me - a blind man does not hold his stick in any way that could be construed as a threat. I fear that gung-ho, badly trained police officers will be given them and will use them when they are not justified.

Actually this is no joking matter. Someone reported seeing a man with a samurai sword and police with tasers were dispatched. The policeman who tasered – and tightly handcuffed – the blind man mistook his white stick for a sword. A katana, the sword usually described as a samurai sword, is a big curved weapon. You have to be quite close to a person to use a taser effectively – certainly close enough to distinguish between a blind man's stick and a large Japanese sword. Clearly, the policeman wasn't following the guidelines and that is very worrying. This is not the first instance of police using tasers inappropriately.

I don't like tasers but I suppose it's the lesser of two evils because I really don't want a totally armed policeforce.

So long as they aren't blind.

A policeman tasered a blind man in the back because he thought his white stick was a Samurai sword. It is proposed to give tasers to many more policemen. Is this a good idea?
