Healthy debate is one thing, when, but as Sel says, it never stays that way.

I can find lots of threads where it has stayed healthy debate Ana, and been discussed with rigour. Gransnetters like MiceElf and Lilygran give us a good run for our money on threads which can get contentious, and keep it friendly - all credit to them

We all have a responsibility not to rise to the bait (because sometimes, most times, no offence is intended) in whatever way does the trick

IMO we should treat all GNs as we would treat out own friends. I can have a good debate with my friends without anyone putting another down, patronising, twisting what has been said or otherwise being unpleasant. Afterwards we are still friends and no one has felt the need to come out as top dog. I see no reason why all on Gransnet should not behave the same.

Perhaps some of the condescending comments made on this thread actually have a point after all. However, there is no sign of it degenerating into metaphorical fisticuffs – and why would it anyway?

By the way, has anyone put anyone down on this thread? Has anyone treated other posters as enemies? Has anyone twisted what has been said? Has anyone been unpleasant? Has anyone tried to come out as top dog – or even top bitch?

I saw this thread and then I remembered that Saturday and Sunday are when we always often finish up arguing so I am not going to post until Monday - that way I'm safe!
PS answer to OP, No, we are a group of women (mostly) of a certain age and if we are not representative, that is because of an element of self-selection that has nothing to do with politics.
