Gransnet is right wing?

Just come back from the local curry house where my DD, DiL and myself have our monthly girls night out. argument discussion arose about Mumsnet and Gransnet. Both DD and DiL declared thry would have nothing to go with Mumsnet as too right wing and (from a position of ignorance/assumption) castigated me for advocating GN declaring it to be right wing too.
Not so! Said I, in defence mode and thinking of greatnan, bags, myself and others we're definitely to the left of centre.
Was I right?

I agree, Sel. Debates do not last long before they degenerate into arguments.

Nonu Sat 26-Jan-13 13:54:45

I also agree with last three posters ! [sigh]

Lilygran Sat 26-Jan-13 14:00:21

What a good thing there are so many different topics and so many different threads!

whenim64 Sat 26-Jan-13 14:03:03

Not much disagreement going on here. grin

doesn't it get a touch boring when healthy debate disappears?

Ana Sat 26-Jan-13 14:06:10

Healthy debate is one thing, when, but as Sel says, it never stays that way.

whenim64 Sat 26-Jan-13 14:22:14

I can find lots of threads where it has stayed healthy debate Ana, and been discussed with rigour. Gransnetters like MiceElf and Lilygran give us a good run for our money on threads which can get contentious, and keep it friendly - all credit to them smile

We all have a responsibility not to rise to the bait (because sometimes, most times, no offence is intended) in whatever way does the trick smile

Ana Sat 26-Jan-13 14:48:40

Yes indeed, when! smile

IMO we should treat all GNs as we would treat out own friends. I can have a good debate with my friends without anyone putting another down, patronising, twisting what has been said or otherwise being unpleasant. Afterwards we are still friends and no one has felt the need to come out as top dog. I see no reason why all on Gransnet should not behave the same.

Lilygran Sat 26-Jan-13 15:50:37

whenim Thank you!

MiceElf Sat 26-Jan-13 15:58:46

Whenim, I'm blushing! blush

Perhaps some of the condescending comments made on this thread actually have a point after all. However, there is no sign of it degenerating into metaphorical fisticuffs – and why would it anyway?

absent Sat 26-Jan-13 18:54:07

By the way, has anyone put anyone down on this thread? Has anyone treated other posters as enemies? Has anyone twisted what has been said? Has anyone been unpleasant? Has anyone tried to come out as top dog – or even top bitch?

Ana Sat 26-Jan-13 18:57:40

The recent posts were discussing debates in general on Gransnet, absent, not this thread in particular.

whenim64 Sat 26-Jan-13 19:08:45

Precisely, absent

Ana Sat 26-Jan-13 19:12:03

Oh - was it about this thread then? I must have got that wrong. confused

gracesmum Sat 26-Jan-13 19:25:09

I saw this thread and then I remembered that Saturday and Sunday are when we always often finish up arguing so I am not going to post until Monday - that way I'm safe!grin
PS answer to OP, No, we are a group of women (mostly) of a certain age and if we are not representative, that is because of an element of self-selection that has nothing to do with politics.

POGS Sat 26-Jan-13 19:48:33

Sigh confused

gracesmum Sat 26-Jan-13 20:02:57

Right then - wot you sighin' at? [fierce] emoticon

Bags Have you changed your painkillers recently or deputed MiniBags or someone else to stand in for you? Suddenly you've become a succession of one-line posts and now you're doing hashtags. Help. confused

Bags Sat 26-Jan-13 20:34:11

What do you need help with absnet? The one-liners are not new. Been doing those for ages. The hashtags are new – learning curve smile.

Next?

absent Sat 26-Jan-13 20:37:04

Bags absnet? absnet? Definitely a problem. grin I think hashtags are tiresome but if you like them …

Bags Sat 26-Jan-13 20:40:13

You said it wasn't a problem last time I asked!!!!!

Are you the REAL absent?
