PCC Elections

I thought about not voting but these PCCs are going to be there for some time (not sure how long between elections) and it would take an act of Parliament to get rid of the posts, so decided it was better the devil I knew to be reasonably clued up about policing. My vote is in the post, or, with luck, at the electoral office.

The leaflet says the next election will be May 2016.

Of the 10 standing here, 6 were Independent, 1 Conservative, 1 Labour, 1 Lib Dem and 1 UKIP

I have made my decision based on their election statement, rather than their party politics.

I will be voting but I won't be happy. I don't think we need this extra expense. Rather than policing in the most appropriate way they will be swayed by public opinion. I want the best policing available not just what the public want.

vampirequeen , The thing is that vital services at local level across the EU are funded by much higher income tax rates than we British pay. Local taxes across the EU help with the upkeep of churches ect.

Since the 80's here in Britain, our local communities have become detached from central government funding beginning with poll tax, then community charge, now council tax.

Its been a clever ploy since Thatcherism, to bring decisions down to local people, the trouble is that local people in my view, have not seen what's been happening, because the British factually are just not politically minded.

Local services in every community in Britain, should be funded by general taxation like it used to be prior to the 80's.

O.F.F.SAKE POLL TAX???

PCC's should be cost neutral as they are replacing police authorities.

Personally I want to be able to give my opinion on how I am policed, as in my area its seems to be one style of policing for those with posh houses and accents , and another for the ordinary working people!

I personally witnessed a resident at Prince Charles Poundbury verbally harrass and interfere with a local tradesman working at his neighbours house, and when the guy eventually got fed up and told him to F off and leave him alone, two police cars came and arrested him ! Ridiculous - I told the policeman what I had seen, but he said using that language was a public order offence

Which begs the question why has nobody arrested Jonathan Ross.......

Ivanhoe How old are you? Don't you remember paying rates based on the rental value of your house and used to fund Local Government services, for generations before the poll tax??

But in those days Income Tax increases funded our vital services, wheras since the 80's local tax increases have funded local services, that's the difference.

You will notice local council tax increases are all the time. You will not notice income tax increases like there used to be.

That's the difference.

There have been no increases in our Council Tax since the SNP came to power in the Scottish Parliament. I did however notice when The Blessed Gordon Brown firstly took a swipe at my already miniscule private pension and then took away the 10% rate of Income Tax such that I was then paying exactly double what I paid before.

POGS, No, but it wasnt long before the poll tax was replaced by the Community Charge, and then that was replaced by the Council Tax.

All three local taxes increase by stealth to fund people's own local communities, but income tax remains static, hence we are all "localised", and not being funded by "the State".

Yes, but since Thatcher in 1979, when she cut income tax for all British workers,
local taxes funded local services, while income tax revenue has been cut back.

What we have developed in this country since the 80's is a disproportionate tax system where the rich pay less income tax and council tax in proportion to earnings than the rest of us, the Lib-Dems had been on top of this, but the coalition with the Tories has buried the issue.

As the OP says, it is about the PCC elections, which are now long gone.

The most recent posts on it have no relation to the Op, and there are other currently active political threads.

Ivanhoe I do not understand why you see fit to bring this one back, you are currently posting on the other active politics threads, are you attempting to :
A) Ties yourself in knots
B) Cause as much confusion as you can by thread hopping
C) Achieve page 1 dominance for either political threads in general
D) Achieve page 1 dominance for your own views
E) Disappear up your own arse fundament
