Dear me! I repeated that post because I thought I hadn't 'blued' the first - now I realise I had. Should change my name to dopey.

The properties are privately owned.

I think the family who lives there now probably needs rent benefit from the council because the rents in London are so high. If they can re-locate the family to somewhere cheaper they wouldn't need so much benefit.

The flat would then be taken on by someone who did not need benefit. ie wealthier people.

The family have been living there for 17 years. They were originally genuine asylum seekers.

Don't quite get this - the council is already accommodating this family. If they chuck them out, who gets the empty flat? - and why don't they send that family to Brum instead? I am puzzled.....

What is happening here JO?

they're still at it

I suppose when they manage to get this family out, the flat will be rented to well off people able to pay the full rent themselves. This is social cleansing, and it's heartless.
