The End of the World is nigh

Just heard on Radio 4 that the current reports of the imminent end of the world have led to panic buying in some parts of China.

I am just wondering what I might stockpile.

Perhaps a rocket at the end of the garden to jump into for a quick getaway - but would I get enough warning to start the countdown in time? And where to go?

I was just thinking of posting on the same topic.

I think December the 22nd is the date according to the Maya.

Question. Does the end of the world mean the end of GRANSNET?

Discuss!

Yes, its an interpretation of the Mayan calendar. I think most of us have heard this before over the years and it still hasn't happened. I was told the other day that it actually has but because we are not believers we havn't noticed.confused

I heard the same piece but I don't understand how stockpiling would help if it is the end of the world confused I would have wasted all that time worrying about it and shopping to no avail. grin

Jeni I was told 22nd. Just imagine I could think it was all OK and then it would come and bite me the next day! Or - you could think you still have a day to do whatever................ and then it would all be over.grin

I would love to know how GN can carry on in the ether, explain please?

Judging by some posters GN has a separate otherworld transcendental existence.

I'd heard it was the 21st! We'd better get the date right.....confused

annodomini Sat 15-Dec-12 16:22:21

Does that mean I don't have to write my Christmas cards? Or wrap the presents? grin

Barrow Sat 15-Dec-12 16:23:28

22nd in what time zone? It is Saturday here but its already tomorrow in Australia!

Will it happen at midnight 21/22 or midnight 22/23? or sometime in between? We are obviously not being given all the information - we should be told!

I am having lunch with a friend on 22nd and meeting another friend on 23rd so could it please be postponed for a couple of days!

kittylester Sat 15-Dec-12 16:28:04

Definitely, Barrow I've ordered the flipping turkey now. grin

Ella46 Sat 15-Dec-12 16:29:28

I read it's the 21st Ana I can't wait! grin

Movedalot Sat 15-Dec-12 16:50:38

Will I get enough warning to eat the chocolates I have been resisiting? No point in trying to lose weight now is there? (Sorry Glass)

Barrow Sat 15-Dec-12 16:56:11

Just checked and Ella is right, it is 21st! I have just got all the booze in for Christmas - should I make a start on it now grin

kittylester Sat 15-Dec-12 16:58:29

well, I'm going to pull the crackers, so there!

NannaB Sat 15-Dec-12 17:13:13

I wonder if it had anything to do with that meteor that passed by Earth this week? My brother never does his Christmas shopping until Christmas Eve just in case Christmas is cancelled or the end of the world comes!!!! smile

Movedalot Sat 15-Dec-12 17:51:35

I think I'll just hide in the grotto smile

Wheniwasyourage Sat 15-Dec-12 17:56:11

I'd heard it was the 21st. It would be nice to know as it affects the amount of milk I buy. Don't want to waste any but equally, I don't want to run out. I was looking forward to the turkey, too. confused

THANKS, I needed an excuse for a party this week-end. I didn't think it should last upto the 22nd though. wine
