My unemployed 35 year old daughter has just rung to tell me that she has somewhat belatedly received a letter from the DWP (dated 13 December) informing her that her Job Seekers Allowance has been stopped from 22 November because they believe she and our 76 year old family friend are living as man and wife. He was kind enough to offer her his spare room whilst she is looking for work in London. She has already been interviewed about this by the Job Centre which was satisfied that she is his temporary lodger. I wonder what the mentality is of DWP staff - do they think all old men are like Berlusconi? Have they never heard of people helping each other out? She now has to appeal the decision and in the meantime has no money coming in until her appeal is heard 'some time in January.'
