The NRA has made a statement after the terrible shooting at the school in America. "The only way to combat a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun" Is anyone else as sickened by this as I am? They are now calling for armed guards in schools.

My husband read this statement out to me today, and we both commented that although we'd heard this statement before, we didn't actually believe anyone could be so completely bonkers as to actually say it and believe in it.
Words fail me. angry

I think it's 54% of Americans who supposedly support this.
Incredible!!

How about 'not giving the bad guy a gun in the first place'?

The sale of arms has more than doubled in last few days - with the automatic weapon used in the massacre on top of the list - it has become a 'collectors item'. Sales of bullet-proof school bags are soaring. Beggars belief.

The NRA are not known for their tact or sense. They genuinely believe that having the right to bear arms is God give.

This isn't the first time they've come up with bizarre statements. Do you remember after Columbine, Charlton Heston said "You can have my gun when you prise it from my cold dead hands".

Dogmatic is a wild understatement. Of course in the original constitution "arms" were rather feeble muskety weapons not assault rifles that could slaughter a room full of people in a couple of minutes, without even having to be any good at aiming.
Of course in the background is a huge industry making and selling the darn things and subsidising election campaigns. And supporting pro-gun propaganda we should assume. sad

Glad you menioned Charlton Heston vq. Really stuck in my mind, his attititude. Can't believe the bullet proof bags. I mean; how many of those poor children were carrying their school bags with them when they were shot? Am I right in thinking it's very much the Republican Party that are funded by the gun lobby. And the S.O. said that a law[?] stopping these rifles wasn't reinstated by Bush Jnr after it had been introduced by Bill Clinton.
