Anyone else left with HMV vouchers following their collapse?

Fairly usual to take payment and take orders right up to the minute they cease trading. I had it happen to me at a musical instrument shop, the staff knew there was aproblem but were not allowed to tell anyone.
HMV has had problems for a while and I have only paid cash for items bought across the counter. I think it pays to keep an eye on financial papers.

My son placed and order with Jessops just before they went down. The assistant took payment in full, in cash. This is morally wrong to take money knowing full well that they could not fulfil the contract.

I haven't collapsed yet fortunately! wink
but I do have some extremely ancient HMV vouchers.

Did the pedants miss the syntax error in that thread title or have I imagined it? Ariadne where are you?

Crimson, he used a debit card, I know Barclaycard guarantees purchases over £50, this was £20ish, I will hang on to the credit voucher card though I believe there is talk that some branches may be saved and my local one is quite a big. I agree Mishap it is inexcusable to blame the branch staff, they after all are bigger losers than someone like myself.

It's the same with Jessop's - all those Christmas gift vouchers which cannot be honoured.

Jessops still had their website going yesterday on which you could make a photobook - and pay for it!

It is inexcusable to blame the branch staff - they are losers in this too.

Said on R6 just now to hang on to any cards/vouchers. They were also saying is this the end for cd's with most people downloading things. Well, I don't download and I like owning cd's. If your son bought the dvd with a credit card would it still be covered by that transaction? Our local theatre went into administration soon after I'd paid for a whole season of plays, but, because I'd used mastercard I was reimbursed quite quickly. A friend that paid by [I think] cheque waited for a year or so for their money.

I was actually on their website last night and you could still buy their gift cards!

One of my sons bought me the Mad Men series 5 for Christmas which I had been waiting avidly for as we don't have SKY. Unfortunately it was faulty and I took it back to HMV just after Christmas, but Sod's law they had just sold the last one. I was duly issued with one of their cards, with the credit for this item on it. I have been going back almost every day only to be told that they were still awaiting delivery of this dvd. Last night on the news I learnt that they had gone into administration and I have been in there today to see what the situation was. They are of course not accepting credit notes and vouchers. I don't in anyway blame the poor staff I believe them when they said they only knew last night as well. They are mostly young kids, who do their job well and are in the firing line as far as verbal abuse is concerned. One woman was being particularly nasty to one young member of staff and an older man said "don't have a go at them, they have this to put up with this and they have probably lost their jobs as well" this woman told him to go "f**k himself", some people are so horrible. What I think is a disgrace is, that I suspect the management knew the writing was on the wall when they were still trading and then they didn't send senior staff into their branches to deal with irate customers, they leave their shop employees to just get on with it.
