Women are under threat by several pieces of legislature in the USA
The Republican controlled Arkansas House approved one of the most restrictive abortion bans in the nation on Monday. According to the measure, there are no exceptions for women who are victims of rape or incest. The proposal now goes before the GOP controlled state Senate, which, according to a report filed by Boston.com, already approved restrictions last week that were even more severe, including a ban on abortion once a heartbeat is detected. [..] Pro-Choice supporters have promised to sue if the 'heartbeat bill' becomes law, stating it is out of compliance with Roe v. Wade, which ruled that abortion is legal up until the third trimester.

Would this not just result in women travelling to another state, much like girls coming over from Ireland?

Terrible news greatnan
Aren't there some bizarre laws about "transporting women across state lines" ?
In any case, not anyone can afford. States are huge, the size of EU countries. So it would be a bit like the thing with Irish women having to come here.

JessM I think the thing about "transporting across state lines" is to do with immoral purposes, i.e. sex. I'm not even sure the law still exists.

Home of the brave and land of the free. Yeah!

The extremes in the US are often beyond me. I suppose its the size and history of immigrations over the years. On a recent trip to Charleston and Savannah areas we found many US citizens basically explaining that the Civil War is not over and needs starying up again!. We just smiled sweetly. There is a lot of talk about God and yet intolerance to difference is bizarre. And as for their attitudes to guns....well you can buy them in WallMart!
Mind you, not sure we can do anything by worrying about it - they do seem to think they are the best in the world, they really dont accept criticsm.
P.S. on a one to one level we have found pretty much everyone in the US (eccept Homeland security staff) to be quite charming.

Oh the lovely people on immigration hilda? Never known to speed up even a tad even when there are hour-long queues of tired people, desperate for the loo?

True JessM, and I always get a special search because something about me sets the bells off!. Last time I even put my dental plate into hand luggage thinking that was the problem....its only for a couple of back teeth but I hate not having in in in public. I need not have bothered....the bells still rang!
