You have lost me, gillybob. Who is the puppeteer?
I would be happier with many unions if the CEOs did not have such large pay packets and perks. They are still vitally necessary though - the rich and powerful owners of businesses did not improve conditions for their workers out of altruism, with a few noble exceptions like the Fry family. (Hm....Quakers.....)

You have got to be joking MiceElf can you imagine this country being run by the unions again? Lets not fool ourselves by thinking that Ed will have very much say in anything. He will do whatever the puppeteer makes him. smile

MiceElf Fri 05-Apr-13 09:08:29

Red Ed. if only. But one can always dream grin

greatnan they all seem like Stepford wives in my opinion.

I think there is no love lost between the Milibrothers or indeed the Miliwives who seem to dislike each other even more although isn't it weird that they look a bit alike?

David was tipped for the top post and it was only the unions that parachuted Red-Ed into the leadership. I guess it is a case of brotherly jealousy and wanting what the other brother has, not being able to have it, and so leaving the game and taking your ball home!

Yes Stella Creasey has done a great deal to highlight the "legalised loan sharks" I did try to contact her with regards to the sponsorship at Newcastle United (Wonga) but haven't had a reply as yet. It's too late now as its a done deal but it makes me sick to think that many of the genuine supporters will be actually taking these bloody loans out to pay for the players over inflated wages. angry

Nobody voted for Churchill, Attlee or Wilson on the grounds that they were physically attractive. What a shame that something so vital to the life of a country should have degenerated into a beauty contest.
David Milliband was too close to Blair for my liking so I am quite happy to see him go. I see no reason why his brother should have been denied his chance to be party leader, just to please his big brother.
I found the list of MPs expenses claims very interesting, as well as their register of interests. So many have financial motives for pushing a certain law but of course many are crafty and leave everything in their wife's name.

Eloethan I thought back stabbing was a strange accusation too. It was a vote wasn't it?

Eloethan Fri 05-Apr-13 00:27:06

Stella Creasey is our MP and has done a good job highlighting the disgraceful practices of the same day loan companies. Locally, she is well regarded and seems to be working very hard.

As for David Miliband, I'm sure this country will survive without him. I'm not a huge fan of Ed Miliband but I don't see why he should be accused of stabbing his brother in the back.

My MP is an Eton educated millionaire who is the Conservative equivalent of a Stepford wife. He takes the party line on absolutely everything so getting him to even contemplate a governmental deficiency is like trying to drill a hole in water.

Mishap smile Sounds a good chap!
I haven't a clue what my MP is up to; seems to have gone AWOL over the last few years does Mr.G.Brown hmm

annodomini Wed 27-Mar-13 10:29:15

Mine is a 'new boy' in this parliament. He succeeded an 'old boy' who had a reputation for being 'up himself' and whose wife was a neighbouring MP with a reputation for putting foot in mouth and coming out with something decidedly non-PC. The 'new boy' has made a good start and always replies to my (many) emails. He is now somebody's parliamentary private secretary, so must be in with the 'right people' as well as being a good constituency MP - not that I did, or would, vote for him.

Mishap Wed 27-Mar-13 10:16:37

My constituency MP works tirelessly for his locality. I do not always agree with his politics, but I cannot fault him on that score - he has even fallen foul of the party leadership in order to stand up for what he believes. I did not vote for him, and would not, but I admire his genuine concern for his community.

Interesting to read what you've said, gillybob. As a lifelong Labour voter [me that is] I was surprised to hear from a friend what an amazing constituency MP William Hague is which got me wondering what MP's were like at grass roots level [mine was once Edwina Curry; again someone that went nowhere without a film crew/photographer]. I did prefer Ed to David at the time of the leadership election [felt he was more sincere] but then felt his appearance was against him [shouldn't be but, alas, that is how politics is these days].

gillybob Wed 27-Mar-13 08:33:11

Oooops forgot to mention the forthcoming by-election. The main parties shouldn't waste their energy or money as there will only ever be a Labour MP in South Shields.

gillybob Wed 27-Mar-13 08:31:09

David Milliband is was my MP. As a high profile MP he was set up with an incredibly safe seat as South Shields is a staunch labour town. (Mining, ship yards etc) . Millipede (or Mr Bean As he is affectionately known in the town) is a typical hypocritical champagne socialist with reputed earnings of around a million pounds a year on top of his MP's salary including a large salary from Sunderland Football Club.

I don't think British politics is quite big enough for The Millibros and it was obviously not Ed who was going to leave. David does not live in his constituency (I am sure that comes as no surprise) although he does have a house here (rented I would guess). He is often seen out and about buying fish and chips and the likes and usually with a camera crew not far behind. As a small business owner in his constituency I have met him on several occasions and he always comes accross as quite passionate (although I do recall quite smelly breath) . His wife is an American Yorkshire-woman and his children were both purchased adopted in America, so he has strong ties there anyway.

All I can say is goodbye Mr Bean .....the people of South Shields bid you farewell....... (Blimey that sounds like a film) grin

sunseeker Wed 27-Mar-13 08:14:44

One of the reasons I don't trust Ed. If he is prepared to stab his brother in the back what is he prepared to do to the British people!

absent Wed 27-Mar-13 07:20:35

So that's another by-election coming up. I suppose he reckons that Ed will stay in situ for a while longer and that he's missed his chance for the top job. He claims that running this charity is his dream job and he clearly does like whizzing around the world. Even so, that doesn't quite ring true to my ears.

Just seen this on the BBC website. Pity; I thought he would have done a far better job than his younger bro'. I just can't take 'Wallace' seriously grin
