Number please,I understand about being stuck. My husband took early retirement and my only child,a son, lives in one of the most expensive places to live and across the country from us.So here we sit.

Having moved to a small town in Cheshire 26yrs ago after living in Barkingside, Ilford Essex. The space and countryside around here is by comparison really lovely.

The view from my house could be better though.
No sea for about 35miles; if you count the Dee/Mersey estuaries as sea! and I am the back of a "close" of houses.

Much nicer here though I am now in easy reach of the Peak District.

Where are you number? Very cold where soop lives!

I was wondering,I get the impression it takes longer to get around to other cities in your country. Is it the traffic or speed that makes trips long? Driving 15 miles is common to get to work and takes about 20 min here. Most streets are two lanes right? So going 15 miles takes a long time?

Contrary to all of you, I don`t think that I do live in the best place! For a good few years now, I`ve had a hankering to live in Soop`s part of the world, envy and hubby would go along with that, but unfortunately we`re stuck here, as finances won`t allow us a move. I`m not complaining...............YES, Iam!! grin

Yes,at least the sun shines almost every day compared the your overcast skies.I have to admit it would be hard to get use to grey skies especially if your going through a bad spell in life. I do live I'm a pretty state. We have lots of parks, wooded and open.Hills, lakes and rivers, flowering trees in spring and gorgeous views of colorful trees in fall. Weather fairly mild, all seasons with a little snow and HOT summers.

Envious, please tell us about your home area - I for one would love to hear about it.
Of course, we all like our own places best or we wouldn't have chosen them (well, those of us who don't have to work anyway!)
I have just watched 'Escape to the country' about Shropshire - it made me feel quite nostalgic. I had forgotten how lovely the less famous bits of Britain are. I will have to do an extended tour before I leave Europe for good.

envious the weather we have had over here for the last few months I think we all would have swopped with you for a wee while smile as long as I could come home again!

Enviousamerican Wed 03-Apr-13 16:14:17

Geeez, and you wonder why I'm envious!

Movedalot Wed 03-Apr-13 16:13:40

It seems we must all agree to disagree (but of course Malvern is best!) smile

I rather like mine. A cross the Bristol Channel to Wales.
We get spectacular sunsets

soop Wed 03-Apr-13 15:23:09

Our view is stunning. Across a blue/green sea, sparkling with sunlight, towards the mountainous islands of the Inner Hebrides. smile

glassortwo Wed 03-Apr-13 15:20:53

Sorry but you are all sooooo wrong cant beat Northumberland. grin Sun is shining here today.

Movedalot Wed 03-Apr-13 15:10:56

As is the view of the Malvern hills and the Severn valley. One is at the front of the house and the other at the back. Some of us are very fortunate to live where we do.

Greatnan Wed 03-Apr-13 14:48:29

The view of the Mont Blanc range is wonderful.

Movedalot Wed 03-Apr-13 13:27:05

We have bright sunshine here too Greatnan and lovely blue sky.

Butty Wed 03-Apr-13 13:04:31

Move smile

Greatnan Wed 03-Apr-13 12:55:23

I couldn't possibly comment, but I am just about to drive up to the ski station in the bright sunshine!

Movedalot Wed 03-Apr-13 12:06:44

Butty do come and see us and we will show you around. We are very friendly people here in the best town in the world!

Butty Wed 03-Apr-13 12:05:06

Move - It's on my list of places to visit when we eventually sell!

Movedalot Wed 03-Apr-13 10:42:45

Totally prejudiced survey! They don't have an agency here in Malvern so don't know what they are missing. Quite obviously Malvern is the best place in the world to live. I do feel so sorry for the rest of you who can only visit grin

Grannylin Wed 03-Apr-13 10:23:34

It's a strange survey as it includes not a single village or town in Devon and Cornwall...and I know I live in the best place on earth grin

nanaej Wed 03-Apr-13 09:47:14

Apparently , according to the Halifax survey, the town I live in is the best place to live!!! I wonder what they base it on? A local councillor commented when interviewed that we had a lot of good pubs! www.telegraph.co.uk/property/propertynews/9960500/Waverley-tops-list-of-best-places-to-live.html
