Malala

Malala is a wonderful young woman and I'm glad she is now so well and can continue her education here in the UK. I was listening to a programme (I think on the World Service) when they interviewed 2 young girls who were injured in the same attack that nearly killed Malala. They were still frightened when going to school and only felt safe once back at home. One of them wished she could be here in the UK as well.

A genuinely inspiring story isn't it? I hope she goes from strength to strength, I can't imagine living somewhere where education is a mortal sin.

We were upset when the local news told us all which school she was going to. It seemed silly to do that and alert anyone who wanted to harm her where they could find her.

Yes, I think they are. I am sure her father is.

I think the Pakistan high commission has given her dad a job so they can stay here.

Isn't her family here too now? I'm not sure I'd want a 'home' where I was liable to be attacked for wanting to go to school.

What a wonderfully eloquent and intelligent young lady. Good to hear that the Pakistan government is paying for her education in Birmingham. It must be such a sadness to her that she can't go home in safety.

I hope her story generates hope for other girls who want an education.
