Greatnan This is now the third time I have asked you to respond. We have been here before haven't we? You are not alone in leaving a thread when you have been asked to explain yourself but it does seem a shame to me.

This is what I said:

"Greatnan why is it that you always put the worst possible interpretation on everything I post?

"Movedalot - does 'blinkered' mean 'not agreeing with me'? Are you ever blinkered or does it only apply to other people?"

You know full well that I am talking about only seeing one point of view and not admitting that there is any other view. I just don't understand why you do this all the time. What on earth motivates you?

I have used the word 'balanced' but you fail to notice that."

A response would be appreciated please.

Moved I love the idea about "how would you feel if on your death..."

Whoever ranted that has obviously not seen the funnyside of that comment. grin

Lilygran Thu 11-Apr-13 19:02:29

Bacon asked if she didn't think her comments about middle-class white men were racist and she said something like, 'Yes, of course they are'.

gillybob Thu 11-Apr-13 18:15:56

Hope you are wearing your stilettos on your night out Movedalot . Have one wine for me won't you. smile

gillybob Thu 11-Apr-13 18:09:46

Blimey Movedalot whoever wrote that little piece didn't mince their words did they. I feel gutted that I don't know her now. Mind you she sounds like a right nasty cow woman to me.

Yasmin Alibah-Brown she's a strange one. I didn't see Matthew Wright this morning, I did catch YAB on Monday though when not surprisingly she stated that she was not a MT fan, so she's probably cranked her responses up a notch or two since then as the relentless coverage has rolled on. I think she can write wonderfully well and be really even handed, but at times she displays quite racist and sexist opinions. There's a reasonably well known interview she did with Richard Bacon that is on Youtube, when he was standing in for Matthew Wright and she said something along the lines of "I wish all you white middle class men would just disappear and then we could step up" this is not verbatim, but I gather the gist of what she was saying was that she thought there were too many white middle class men in key positions, which of course is undoubtedly true. Nevertheless, the way she voiced that opinion caused Richard Bacon to respond with something like "are you allowed to say that?"

When I see her on Matthew Wright I don't think she comes over well, she goes into sniffy mode all too often and adjusts her cardigan, as if there is a chill wind, when an opinion opposite to the one she holds is expressed. I've read quite a lot of her articles in the Independent and again on occasions she puts forward some chippy points of view, the one that comes to mind is her complaining about the current fashion for nude shoes not matching darker skin tones!

I accept that MT was not everyone's cup of tea but I hate all this "dancing on her grave" attitude, although the coverage is unremitting. I don't think anyone on the left does their cause any good spitting out that sort of vitriol, I thought Ed Milliband's speech was very gracious.

You might feel a bit wiped-out...

Movedalot Thu 11-Apr-13 17:30:38

Yes, I'm shortly going off to relive my youth with my oldest friend and our DHs. Should be a great night out.

Oooh I've never been deleted, wonder what it feels like? shock

Ana Thu 11-Apr-13 17:23:28

You and gillybob are both in a devil-may-care mood today! grin

GNHQ can delete it if they think fit - but as it's out there on Wiki I don't suppose it matters!

Movedalot Thu 11-Apr-13 17:21:23

But I didn't write it Ana, just copied it? Am I a bad girl again? hmm

Ana Thu 11-Apr-13 17:13:29

Moved! shock You'll get Gransnet blacklisted....

This is what it says:

Yasmin Alibhai-Brown (born Yasmin Damji on 10 December 1949) is AN IRRESPONSIBLE, DIVISIVE, ILL INFORMED AND COWARDLY PERSON. SHE SHOULD NOT BE A JOURNALIST. IT IS AN EMBARASSMENT TO FREEDOM OF SPEECH. FREEDOM OF SPEECH IS NOT A CRUTCH TO SUPPORT ONES OWN TWISTED AGENDA. IT IS THERE FOR THE PROTECTION OF EQUALITY. AS YOU WERE ASKED TODAY, HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF ON YOUR DEATH YOU HAD A HATEFUL SONG BEING PARADED AMONGST THE PUBLIC AND PROTESTERS WITH ILL INTENTION OUTSIDE YOUR PLACE OF REST? OR MAYBE THE FUNERAL OF A FAMILY MEMBER. IT'S A DISGUSTING AND UNCIVILISED THOUGHT AND MAYBE YOU SHOULD CONSIDER THAT BEFORE MAKING YOUR BITTER, IMMATURE, HATEFUL AND IRRESPONSIBLE COMMENTS. THANK YOU.

Ana Thu 11-Apr-13 16:46:20

Just had a look, Sel! Her appearance on The Wright Show obviously didn't go down well in certain quarters...

Sel Thu 11-Apr-13 16:42:54

I didn't know who she was so Googled her - take a look at her Wiki entry before it's removed.

POGS Thu 11-Apr-13 16:37:26

Amen to the Lilygran.

Movedalot Thu 11-Apr-13 16:36:16

Lily is she old enough to come on here?

Lilygran Thu 11-Apr-13 16:33:38

Not shocked by YAB being so repellent. She changes her views to match those of the people she wants to be thought well of. And she talks a lot of codswallop.

bluebell Thu 11-Apr-13 15:33:24

Pogs - no I didn't read it like that - I suppose I meant that if anyone has a state funeral it will be someone who is head of state when they die but actually thinking about it, that needn't necessarily be the case I suppose.

POGS Thu 11-Apr-13 15:28:16

gilly bob

YAB Yasmin Alibhai Brown. She is a left wing writer respected by those of her persuasion. I think a lot of GN's indeed have made reference to her in the past with varying views, some good, some not so good. She is proably regarded as being more aligned to the Guardian but has taken the buck from The Daily Mail, the paper she proports to despising so much. confused

bleubell

The point I was making about Chavez was not the level of their stature, but the fact that there will be those who think it is a good thing to celebrate a funeral and others who abhor the same person getting the funeral. Nothing more, nothing less. I was not comparing Margaret Thatcher to Chavez I am sorry if my post read that way.

Movedalot Thu 11-Apr-13 15:24:19

Nellie I'm not going to look. Promised myself I would dust in time for DH to follow me round with the vacuum cleaner. Must do it before he gets frustrated.

Nelliemoser Thu 11-Apr-13 15:19:08

Hey! We are managing to tempt gillybob away from her work on two different threads at the same time! Is she on any others!

Movedalot Thu 11-Apr-13 15:13:28

gilly keep it up, its good to know who the fun people are.

bluebell Thu 11-Apr-13 15:12:00

Merlotgran - memorial services can be really lovely as they happen a while afterwards. There have been some really nice ones for some famous people - they are often more human- but they can be nice for the rest of us too). My mum had a lovely memorial service - we all had chance to think much more about how we wanted to mark her amazing life and I felt it was a better tribute to her than the funeral.

gillybob Thu 11-Apr-13 15:10:29

I'm feeling proper mischievous today Movedalot. Had to look up the spelling of it though. grin
