The argument against banning boxing is always that the boxers choose to box. I don't see that as an adequate reason.

I think that there is something deeply unsavoury about getting pleasure from watching two people hit each other, especially in the light of modern medical knowledge of the damage done when the brain slops about from one side of the skull to the other.

There's a lot of money in this so-called sport.

Michael Norgrove, a boxer, has recently died after a fight. Is it right in a so-called civilised society for people to derive enjoyment from watching two men (or women) knocking hell out of each other? I'm aware that sudden deaths like this are rare but I can't help but wonder about the cumulative damage that is being done to a boxer's brain.

We ban hare coursing and dog and cock fighting. Why is boxing OK?
