G8 Pledge To End Sexual Vioulence.

I think the anecdotes of Hague and Zainab Bangura were harrowing. The fact the G8 agree the rape of babies, children and women are being used by some regimes and fighting forces, not as a sexual act but as a 'weapon' to attempt to annhialate and ruin entire regions/countries is thought provoking and repulsive to think about.

They believe that by raping babies, children and women the breakdown of the family/village life ensues because of the shame bestowed on the female population. Men and their own families want nothing more to do with them. The hope is the population will decrease and eventually die out, what a cruel world it is. It is cruel, sadistic and I hope when the UN meet the agreement made by the G8 countries will be implimented by all nations. Shame on any country that votes against the proposals.

I hope they hunt the leaders down and prosecute them for War Crimes, I think given the will by the G8 leaders it could just happen this time.

If ever a resolution needed passing it must surely be this one. There endoth my sermon for the day.

POGS Rape is never a sexual act; it is always an act of violence and an expression of power. It may be used to damage communities as in worn-torn areas or simply to harm an individual women and give the perpetrator a mistaken sense of his own value and strength.

I never feel confident that lots of politicians talking will result in real action.

I wasn't dissecting your post particularly but correcting what is an all too common misconception that rape is a sexual crime. It is even classed as a sex crime, presumably because it involves sexual organs. It is always an act of violence and aggression, sometimes extreme violence. I feel very strongly about this.

As for politicians and their talking shop – well I profoundly hope I am wrong.

It is good that this issue is being brought to the fore and discussed, but sadly I think such a pledge to "end sexual violence" is a bit optimistic - I doubt that laudable aim will be possible - but I am glad the will to try is there.

Is it necessary for people to be sarcastic? Do you remember that thread a little while back about passive aggression - perhaps it should be re-visited.
