Conspiracy theories already! I wonder why they let the hijacked car driver go instead of killing him, if killing came so easily to them.

Nice people can do bad things, and bad people can do nice things too. It's just the way it is.

I agree with you laidback. Hopefully the investigators will find out who/what was behind this tragedy once the surviving bomber is able to be questioned.
Somebody suggested they were set up by the secret services, but if they were acting alone, I find it very strange as the elder brother was married with a 3 year old daughter, and the younger was a medical student if we can believe the newspaper reports.
How on earth can people be so evil? confused

I want to know WHY these two young men committed such a heinous, evil act. They murdered 4 people, injured 180, 56 people are still in hospital, they have had limbs amputated, an 11 year old was having brain surgery to remove ball bearing from the blast. If I lived in Boston I could understand the outpouring of sheer relief last night. We got in late last night and watched the 'standoff' as it happened it was scary. The other brother had explosives strapped to his body and they threw home made grenades at the police who were chasing the car they had car jacked after they shot the MIT policeman .The people were 'celebrating' the efforts of the first responders who did an incredIble job.It has been a tragic week with deaths in Texas also.I don't think they were 'dancing on graves' I think they were relieved to feel safe.

I think we should give the people of Boston some slack. They've had a series of traumatic incidents in the space of a few days, and they have reacted collectively to a different situation in the last 24 hours, than the bombings that took place last Sunday. Perhaps they will mull over things themselves and decide things could have been different on reflection, but they need to recover now.

I cannot either , and it maybe possible , if they gone undetected to havet tried it again.

It is all so very sad .

I'm afraid I can't feel any sympathy for the actions of a couple of young men who chose to kill and maim ordinary people out of spite or jealousy. Perhaps, after having so successfully murdered and injured their fellow citizens on this occasion, they were in the process of planning their next attack?

I don't think that having problems at home or work makes this in any way understandable.

sunseeker Sat 20-Apr-13 14:33:34

As far as I am aware I don't think we know the motives of these bombers.

Greatnan Sat 20-Apr-13 14:23:42

I agree - I don't suppose the relatives of the dead and injured wanted to hear all that celebrating.
I did think the people who were trapped in the Twin Towers showed extraodinary bravery when they sent message to their families and it changed my view of Americans.
I assume this kind of atrocity will continue as long as America involves itself in the internal affairs of other countries.

Nope, rather like dancing on people's graves - and sadly, there are always more bad things waiting in the wings.

I did n' t really think a lot of all the celebrating going on in Boston after the boy had been found. Was listening to it on Today programme. There was music playing in the streets! I appreciate it may have been relief after fear, but, I dunno, it did n' t seem right somehow.

Nonu Sat 20-Apr-13 13:22:11

How heinous , those poor ,poor citizens of Boston .
sad very . thoughts and prayers for them.

Nanban Sat 20-Apr-13 13:09:53

Exactly J08 - it is an all round tragedy, and along with all the awful injuries and deaths, another family will be mourning the loss of their two sons and the youngest by all accounts had always been a nice, gentle boy. Let alone the fact that America has sent a loud message out that two young men can bring a city to a standstill. Brave is surely carrying on in the face of terrorism.

j08 Sat 20-Apr-13 12:25:52

It does sound like this younger boy was drawn into it by his older brother. I can't help feeling sad for him. Something has gone terribly wrong with him. It's dreadful all round.

annodomini Sat 20-Apr-13 12:07:28

After 9/11 and the fear I felt for my son in London on 7/7, I think I can understand the reaction of the US to this episode. What about the 'poor damaged' people whose bodies have been maimed by the marathon bombs, and the families who have lost loved ones?

noodles Sat 20-Apr-13 12:03:28

Nanban, what do you think should have happened? And, what has led you to believe the 19 year old was poor or damaged?

My heart goes out to the families of those killed and injured, not the perpetrators.

Nanban Sat 20-Apr-13 11:51:39

A rant: is it just me that is heartily sick of America banging on about their bravery and not been terrorized when they closed down the city, shut off all transport, sent 9000 troops, armoured cars, tanks, helicopters, rooftop snipers all after one poor damaged 19 year old boy whilst everyone else locked themselves in their homes for FOUR DAYS!

Rant over.
