He was one of those rare people who make you feel as if you've lost a member of your family. His arguments with Phil were a joy to watch and I'm really going to miss the stripey jumpers!

Sad news....although Time Team has gone on a bit too long I can remember very clearly when it all started and how much the whole family enjoyed it. His infectious enthusiasm and good old fashioned friendliness was a joy to watch. Such a shame.

That should be archaeology!

I just saw this on the BBC website. It is sad news. We have enjoyed watching time team for years and it was such a shame that Mick left because of the changes that were to take place on the programme. He did a lot to encourage amateurs to get invovled in archeology. He will be missed. Mick seemed to be such a warm person.

When Mick had left Time Team in protest at the dumbing down of the programme I don't think there was any chance of a return to the original style of the show. He was just what we love in our Professors - slightly eccentric (a naturist, and - ahem - a vegetarian!) - a bit woolly and fluffy - and extremely knowledgeable. The double act of Aston and Harding was one to treasure.

66 is no age, these days - a great shame.

Me too ... I must have seen them all several times over. While there is a stripped jumper in the world MA will be remembered!! Lol!

I just heard that on Breakfast, such a lovely man and whenever I see a bright striped sweater it reminds me of him.. a shame they took Time Team off , I'm guilty of watching a lot of the repeats they've been showing .

Just read that Mick Aston (Time Team) has died ... shame, no hope of the old Time Team being revived now... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-23041568
