I have signed the petition.
Fortunately none of my relatives went in to care but I have visited care homes and dementia wards at several hospitals.
One incident which did happen on one hospital visit was nearly all the patients started kicking off as the visitors entered.
I went to grab nearest patient not fully realising the situation and other visitors grabbed other patients to keep them out of danger.
It took the staff most of the hour to settle them down.
I don't think any of the visitors were with their own relative and they could not leave the patient they were with in case they fell etc.
This really made me realise how difficult it is to look after dementia patients and the only way to keep them anything like 100% safe would require 2 carers per patient.

Done.

We were so lucky that mum's home was right first time for her and the palliative care she received was very good. But I'm now hearing rumours that the dementia ward is in trouble due to lack of staff. Good staffing does seem to be the biggest problem in care homes.

Some of you probably watched the recent Panorama programme about two specific care homes that totally failed in their duty of care to their residents. My friend, Anni, was featured in that programme as her mother in law had appalling treatment in a local care home and it seems likely that she died prematurely as a result. I have also documented on here the awful things that happened to my Mum.

Please sign the petition to try to change the way the CQC regulates and inspects residential/care/nursing homes
