Heat wave West US

So.... a few of the people attending an outdoor concert in temperatures over 50°C suffered dehydration and heat exhaustion.

WHAT a surprise! hmm

It doesn't mention whether they had water with them (idiots if not) or whether they looked for some shade/took some shade in the form of an umbrella, for instance (idiots if not).

Finding it hard to dredge up sympathy for the silly buggers, as you see.

I've been to Las Vegas a fair few times and have noticed quite often that people fail to take elementary precautions in the 'everyday' heat of 42/43 degrees, so that I want to say - Hello, people, has anyone noticed that despite appearances We Are In The Desert? I blame the prevalence of fierce air conditioning, which is everywhere, so much so that people wear sweaters indoors in the height of summer. Even waiting at a bus stop, you are misted by overhead sprinklers. So I can well imagine that people at an outdoor concert would not be at all used to actually being outside in the unmoderated heat.

I too find the US reliance on air conditioning bizarre. Every time we have stayed in US we have found ourselves turning it down or even off! They seem to have lost the art of dressing and behaving in weather appropriate ways. And just don't get me started on the lawns and parks permanently maintained by artificial watering in desert areas. That being said 50 degrees is HOT - and I'd be inclined to just go back to sleep until evening.

I love good A/C! Wish I had it here... My ex lives in Vegas - she apparently has a condition that requires her to live in hot, dry conditions... Got that in spades at the moment I should think.

50 is pretty warm! Ztill, it least it won't be humid there.
