I was just watching the news and was appalled by the lack of access to education in this country.

Does anyone know of a GENUINE charity that supports education in this country?

Galen - what a timely thread. In two days from now Malala Yousafzai will mark her 16th birthday by delivering the highest leadership of the UN a set of education demands written by youth, for youth, to United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. Please sign the letter of support to Ban Ki Moon here: https://secure.aworldatschool.org/page/s/stand-with-malala?source=20130709GordonTweetShare&utm_medium=email&utm_source=awas&utm_campaign=20130709GordonTweetShare

Done.

It sounds terrible, I know, but I hope she never goes back to Pakistan, and that she makes a life in the West instead.

That country is a fundamentalist religion-soaked, misogynist basket case, ans she'll be a target for those nutters all her life.

You can also support the work of The Gordon and Sarah Brown Foundation which works to provide Education for All.

Yes, I'm a fan of this Foundation. It's global campaign for the education of all children is marvellous.
