There will most probably be hard line Islamists among the rebels - more than likely to bite the hand that feeds them.

Terrible though what is going on in Syria is, there is no way that supplying arms is going to improve it. The trouble is that in both this country and the US (and others) there are powerful interests who want armed intervention because of the money they make manufacturing and trading in arms - this isn't a new situation.
