How old are they?

Ah but my daughters own their houses outright.

You can do better than 0.5%

I'm happy for DD a bit miffed for me, but I'm lucky and still working.

Aren't our children's generation having a hard enough time though? High unemployment, wage freezes, housing shortages and can't get a mortgage anyway. It seems harsh to begrudge them some little help.

Some gransnetters (me included) have mortgages as well, but it's the young ones I feel sorry for.

Same here, Brendawymms. I should be happy for our DD and DS who have mortgages but it's a grim outlook for savers.

So interest rates are not increasing until 2016. Well that's .......# my hard earned savings are worthless. I saved to help my retirement but at 0.5% interest my savings are being devalued whilst costs go up.
