So interest rates are not increasing until 2016. Well that's .......# my hard earned savings are worthless. I saved to help my retirement but at 0.5% interest my savings are being devalued whilst costs go up.

Well Frank - trained by the taxpayer, paid by the taxpayer - maybe if you are in that category and don't have a mortgage, you should earn less money and your well off father-in-law should pay you the difference. Funny what is funded by the tax payer isn't it? (Don't believe a word about the dog treats or even the thank you cards)

There is absolutely no "acheivement" in being handed a large sum of money, purchasing a house and therefore being mortgage free. IMHO.

Frank Smug????? Surely not grin

glammanana Thu 08-Aug-13 12:15:54

janthea I think it is off the scale altogether.grin

I wonder if Frank is a fantacist. His last post seems unreal. Or even surreal!

Might be a case of remember the teeth and forget the face eh ! Frank ? I do think it is an achievement for your daughters to own their homes outright but I think you are very smug and self rightious about the fact, maybe they will be able to fund your care fee's when you need them paying saving the hard pressed rest of the community paying them, but you will no doubt come up with a plausable reason as to why not.grin

They are not wealthy dentists and they are employed by the NHS.
They do not work in a dental practice.
They work in a hospital and I don't think the hospital takes money from patients.
They do get thank you cards and one patient sent some treats for the dog.
Unfortunately these cards sometimes arrive a few days after the treatment has been carried out and they can not put a face to the sender.

The main issue about the interest rate is whether it will achieve its economic objectives - my personal view is that economics is all smoke and mirrors

bluebell Thu 08-Aug-13 08:23:15

Frank - do these wealthy dentist husbands do any NHS dentistry?

LizG Thu 08-Aug-13 07:41:01

On balance I think I am pleased about the interest rates it will certainly help two of my daughters.

gillybob Thu 08-Aug-13 07:22:31

Well I for one am pleased that the interest rates have stayed at 0.5% as I still have a mortgage to pay (sadly no London pension, or any other for that matter) . My children both have mortgages too as sadly no rich relatives in our family.

Tegan where our children don't need mortgages, where we have £3000 each tax year to give to them and where we don't rely on interest on savings to live on.

janeainsworth Wed 07-Aug-13 21:50:18

brenda I agree with bluebell you can do a lot better than 0.5%.
Our current account with Santander pays up to 3% with cash back on utility bills paid by direct debit too.
And no I still haven't worked out what the catch is ........

Tegan Wed 07-Aug-13 21:48:03

Where's that ann?

annsixty Wed 07-Aug-13 21:33:11

And for those of who live in the real world..........

Actually you can gift as much as you like if you do not die in the next 7years.

Galen Wed 07-Aug-13 19:33:27

Year? Where did the poet come from?

Galen Wed 07-Aug-13 19:32:58

Also you can give (I believe) in the region of £2000 away every Yeats to your children.

HUNTERF Wed 07-Aug-13 19:32:49

Galen

I don't think I should give my daughter's ages out as they are women.
I think the estate agents found it hard to believe they did not need a mortgage.

Frank

Ariadne Wed 07-Aug-13 19:30:49

Yes yes yes yes yes...

Galen Wed 07-Aug-13 19:30:36

bluebell Wed 07-Aug-13 19:28:37
