Not quite so proud to be British now? The Met continues to have losr the plot - what definition of 'terrorism' includes this episode?

It was Spring Cottage and about 32 years ago! I see it has been tarted up refurbed and you can rent it for £2000 a night!

j08 Fri 23-Aug-13 10:32:05

Yes. You can rent the cottages (there are two actually) for a holiday. Lovely setting by the river, but they know how to charge for them!

gracesmum Fri 23-Aug-13 10:09:54

It was the cottage at Cliveden which had the 2-way mirrors etc. A girlfriend and I once catered for a wedding reception there in our cooking days. No signs of whips (other than Government) or indeed other indications of depravity sad

Elegran Fri 23-Aug-13 09:20:35

Not strange - you can change your advert preference on Google and you will not get any of the targetted ones.

Sodding kindle fire !

Innit

j08 Thu 22-Aug-13 20:54:58

It's cookies in it? [shrug]

Nonu Thu 22-Aug-13 20:36:20

I find it very strange that when I post about a certain thing an ad. comes up that pertains to it .
Weird or what ?

j08 Thu 22-Aug-13 20:18:52

Yes I know. And now I keep getting an advert that says "Are you still looking for a good hotel in Taplow?"' No! I don't go on holiday that close to home! grin

Nonu Thu 22-Aug-13 20:18:29

Hey Elegran, don"t suppose Keeler & Profumo were doing much "Sleeping"

What a lovely quaint expression !

Nonu Thu 22-Aug-13 20:06:25

Clivedon has now been turned into an hotel , it is in Taplow , Berks.
Not too badly priced for what one gets !!
Bet if walls could talk it could tell a few tales !
grin

People should stop seeing "reds under the beds" in our own country and remember there are people out there absolutely panting to kill another lot of us.

j08 Thu 22-Aug-13 19:10:05

Most of the stuff they gop through from the internet, emails etc., is never seen by human eye. It is all very search specific.

That's all a fuss over nothing too.

j08 Thu 22-Aug-13 19:06:55

Bluebell you asked at the beginning of this thread, "where is the terrorism in this?" Well, thankfully there isn't any at the moment. But if GCHQ and the CIA are forced to allow all their information to be published willu-nilly, there very soon will be.

I don't give a stuff about how long he was detained for. I think him and his partner, and the likes of Snowden and Assage are a bunch of self-seeking idiots.

And yes, I am still very proud, and glad, to be British.

j08 Thu 22-Aug-13 18:50:13

where Profumo met the call girls

j08 Thu 22-Aug-13 18:46:39

it makes a good story Nonu

Ana Thu 22-Aug-13 18:40:47

Sorry, I should have said Nonu must be a young gran.

Ana Thu 22-Aug-13 18:40:14

She must be quite a young gran. I remember the 6th Form doing a sketch about the Profumo scandal at school, and I'm only 62!

Elegran Thu 22-Aug-13 18:27:43

Now Nonu has left to eat and will never know the truth!

Elegran Thu 22-Aug-13 18:26:01

No - wrong again! On second thoughts, it was Stephen Ward who committed suicide after being charged with living off the profits of prostitution ("immoral earnings")

For John Profumo "The reality that followed included four decades of work at Toynbee Hall in the east end of London"
"Within a year, Profumo began reconstructing his life. Introduced to Toynbee Hall by Stella, the Marchioness of Reading, he began washing dishes in its kitchen, moving on to the meths drinkers' club.

He then tackled fund-raising to keep the settlement afloat. As his wife said: "it isn't what happens to a man, it's what he does with it that matters".

BB [sounds like brigette Bardot ] do you look like her ?
How old do you think I am ?
I cannot possibly be expected to remember back to the year dot !!

OMG , Too late I fear , will be accused of inane banter , by the banter policeperson.

I will take my leave as I am going to have tea/dinner .

grin

Elegran Thu 22-Aug-13 18:19:32

For Nonu's information - John Profumo was Secretary of State for War at the time. He subsequently resigned and then committed suicide because of the compromising affair.

Elegran Thu 22-Aug-13 18:17:17

Sorry, misinformation. Have just found out that Mandy never met John Profumo, though she was caught up in the scandal when Christine Keeler was sleeping with JP and a Russian spy (not both at once) and, she now apparently admits, helping her "friend", osteopath Stephen Ward – whose clients included Winston Churchill, Frank Sinatra and Elizabeth Taylor – uncover secrets about missile movements in the West that were later passed to the Soviets

bluebell Thu 22-Aug-13 18:16:41

How old are you Nonu - or rather, how young?

Nonu Thu 22-Aug-13 18:15:59

Who??

Elegran Thu 22-Aug-13 18:09:02

Bosom pal of Many Rice Davies, Nonu.
