Chemical weapons

I just started reading a BBC article about Obama's speech on Syria. It has tripped me up almost immediately with this line (paraphrased): "after the worst attack with chemical weapons _of the twentyfirst century_"

shock

You mean, there have been others? shock

Or is it just the usual stupid journalistic writing by so many in the BBC where there has to be a superlative or it isn't news?

I told you it had tripped me up. I've picked myself and now see it was OBAMA saying that.

The worst !!!!??

Utterly shocked.

But how is killing more Syrians going to help? What if you kill the wrong ones?

despair

Has this report been absolutely verified? – positively or negatively?

Sorry, link doesn't work. Try this: www.mintpressnews.com/witnesses-of-gas-attack-say-saudis-supplied-rebels-with-chemical-weapons/168135/

Is that working? I've got the article on my screen, so it did work?

Anyway, the point is that there is talk of Saudis being responsible for the chemical attack. Does anyone really know who carried it out?

It doesn't seem to work for me. While it is trying to find it, the address bar says "about:blank" and blank is right.

I never thought I would say this, but I think I am just too pure and innocent to join in this thread - besides I'm not very good at finding rhymes. grin

Elegran Sun 01-Sept-13 10:13:04

Think you got the wrong thread there, Anno

Owen Jones asks Who was selling chemicals that can be made into nerve gas 10 months after the war in Syria started?

Another link to info which suggests it is the rebel side that used the chemical weapon. I hope this is being investigated.

More on British exports of chemicals.

Here is an article in the Independent arguing the other 'side' of the issue.

The traffic in chemicals that are used in weapon-making is disgraceful and it appalls me that we are involved in this. The intricate web of commerce that feeds wars is global and uinfathomable and perfectly terrifying.

I feel total despair this week as I watch all this unfolding. I wonder what sort of world my very dear GC are going to be living in.
