Hope for Ex pat pensioners!

For those of us who are ex-pats who would have been entitled to the annual increases in state pension for the rest of our lives – which could easily be another 20 years or more – but will not get them because of where we live this is a serious issue and a source of great annoyance.

Me for one!
I'm supposed to be very logical!
But I cannot follow any of of Nonu's arguements!
Am I losing the plot or what?

Anne58 Fri 06-Sept-13 21:14:50

OH FFS!

gracesmum Fri 06-Sept-13 21:14:29

I used the term "we" to refer to the collective group of Gransnetters who have been and may be reading this thread. I assume there's more than just one?

Nonu Fri 06-Sept-13 21:11:31

OH , who are the we ? , care to name names ?

gracesmum Fri 06-Sept-13 21:08:18

I can't imagine, but your comment " Why not mention it indeed" came across as unnecessary, patronising and a total put down. If you actually had something to add to the discussion we are still waiting to hear it.

Nonu Fri 06-Sept-13 20:46:07

Why would I be patronising , M ?

gracesmum Fri 06-Sept-13 20:43:13

#dontseetherelevance of theMandyRiceDaviesriposte

gracesmum Fri 06-Sept-13 20:42:12

Why would I?

Nonu Fri 06-Sept-13 20:03:25

Well you would say that wouldn't you !!

gracesmum Fri 06-Sept-13 19:59:50

Just seemed to be patronising MargaretX really.

Nonu Fri 06-Sept-13 19:48:56

And your point Gracemum is ?

gracesmum Fri 06-Sept-13 19:46:28

And your point nonu is?

Ana Fri 06-Sept-13 19:45:14

Yes, we do tend to only approve of those EU regulations which benefit us personally. I'm struggling to think of one myself, however!

Nonu Fri 06-Sept-13 19:40:53

Why not mention it indeed !!

MargaretX Fri 06-Sept-13 19:34:24

Just to mention the fact that we ex-pat pensioners who do get the yearly increases get them because of the EU regulations. The EU is much maligned by a lot of people in the UK and actually large percent of what they do and the laws that they pass, help us all - just thought I'd mention it.

I'm not holding my breath. Meanwhile the DWP is demonstrating its assiduous inefficiency. In spite of a request to pay my state pension into my New Zealand bank account in April – one month before I left the UK – my pension continued to be paid into my UK bank account (fortunately I still had one). In July, a fellow ex-pat advised me to ring the department that deals with ex-pat requests. (I hadn't been aware that there was a specific department and hadn't received a reply to my letter.) A nice man took all the details and said that he would get the pension transferred to my New Zealand bank account but warned me that it could take quite a long time because "everyone was off because of school holidays".

I am glad that the holidays are now more or less over because my pension has not been paid into my New Zealand bank account and nor has it been paid into my UK bank account. Fortunately my other sources of income are sufficient for my needs but the pension would be useful.

About time too!
I hope it does go through, for you Greatnan and for Absent too of course. It really has been most unfair.

Greatnan Thu 05-Sept-13 10:47:18

Thank you, Lona - I will keep my fingers crossed until I retire to New Zealand in a couple of years!

Charleygirl Thu 05-Sept-13 09:29:05

I do hope that it works because it is so unfair.

Lona Thu 05-Sept-13 08:24:10

I know some of you have mentioned how unfair the pension system is, maybe things will change.
