Thousands of migrating birds and the twin beams of the Tribute in Lights.

I saw that programme, which was harrowing to watch as they kept showing him and others jumping to their certain deaths. They included a couple of his family members in the documentary.

There was a programme called 'The Falling Man' and they said they had been able to identify at least one of the people who jumped.

Deeda The jumpers were virtually erased from the story almost immediately after the event. I'm not sure why – too distressing or to un-American, perhaps. I don't think any of them have ever been identified.

I was listening to the news on Classic FM on the way home and wondering why they weren't doing their usual five minutes of news. Then there was something about people jumping out of the World Trade Centre and I was wondering what on earth would make people do that. I soon found out when I got home.

I heard it on the radio and went through and said to my lodger 'something's happening in America, I don't know quite what'....and we were stuck to the TV for hours.
Then I couldn't contact my sister, and I didn't know where in America she was.

What a terrible day for so many people.

It was sheer horror and shock

Truly shocking. At work we got through the day in a sort of daze.

The anniversary of this atrocity will be hard for survivors and bereaved alike.

Just like when Kennedy died, I can remember everything about what I was doing at the time.

Tegan Wed 11-Sept-13 18:06:04

Was it really 12 years ago?

LizG Wed 11-Sept-13 18:02:25

I can remember watching it on television as it was happening and thinking I was watching a film. Then I phoned OH at work and our children because I thought we would all be attacked. Still can't truly believe it.

Gally Wed 11-Sept-13 17:07:19

I can remember it so clearly. Disbelief and horror. flowers

That week was terrible. It's still so vivid, remembering people fleeing from the rubble and dust engulfing them. My daughters were in Spain and not allowed to fly home on their birthday (tomorrow) until all safety precautions had been carried out. It felt like the world was shutting down. We were so fearful of more plane disasters. Looking back, it was like a living nightmare.

Stansgran Wed 11-Sept-13 16:53:46

I had forgotten.

ninathenana Wed 11-Sept-13 09:35:58

Yes agreed, have just posted along those lines in GM Wednesday

NfkDumpling Wed 11-Sept-13 09:07:34

Agreed. The problem is it just doesn't stop. The horrors just keep happening.

Greatnan Wed 11-Sept-13 08:30:43

A very sad day for so many people. I was filled with admiration for the courage and unselfishness shown by so many of the people involved.
It is easy to say 'Our thoughts are with you', but for once I am sure it is true for many people, not just in the USA.
