It is good that women and men are to be treated equally whatever the field of endeavour.

JessM Sat 14-Sept-13 12:17:51

I wonder if women in those kinds of roles are protected these days galen hmm

Although I am not an Anglican but C of S (no bishops involved) and am not Welsh or English, I am very happy for the women in Wales who have a calling to be priests and bishops. Considering that we have been discussing veils, rape in India and FGM recently, I feel that it is good news to hear of any advance for women anywhere. Let's hope that other branches of the church follow.

Quite! My DD has a year. If I'd not gone back after 6/52 my partners would have dissolved the partnership. As it was, I had to drop my share by a third during the time I had off to have my DD!
I would also add, that the senior partner, who was my father died 10days after my DD's birth! He had retired about 3/12 earlier due to his terminal brain cancer aged 54.

and me bags.
Feetle - if women hadn't been prepared to fight for equality in all arena's, I don't' suppose we'd have the vote yet.
My daughter's take maternity leave as a given, and find it hard to believe it wasn't always available. Organisations benefit from having a workforce that isn't entirely male. I'm delighted with the decision, and hope the CofE follows this decision, soon.

Thatbags - you've said what I would have. smile

Perhaps they think fighting from within is better than fighting from without. And – small point – their membership may have something to do with what they believe in.

I don't like some of the prejudices of the big knobs in the Scout Association but my voice is louder in the organisation than out of it. And beside, I'm a scout, whatever the big knobs think.

Why women follow a regime that treats them as underlings - pretty much any religion really - baffles me..

MiceElf Fri 13-Sept-13 08:09:39

Well said JessM and thatbags. The pace of change is frustratingly slow, but it does happen, and this latest step in Wales is a real cause to rejoice.

Lilygran Fri 13-Sept-13 08:08:40

Good news, Greatnan, I'm pleased for you all. Keep spreading peace and love, Mice. Keep on, J08

Yes quite bags .
But I can also see there are many able and dedicated women in the anglican church who are being blocked from contributing to it at the top level. They have my good wishes. (As do women who would like to progress in other male-dominated organisations that I would not align with personally. e.g the Chinese Communist Party) I also wonder if women bishops might contribute positively to the challenges faced by the organisation.

thatbags Fri 13-Sept-13 07:11:42

I don't see it as a win for women. I see it as a win for humanity. Male humans will gain from this progress too because attitudes will change... are changing. It's good for both sexes when women are not regarded as inferior Please note, I did not say different; of course women are different from men in biological ways, but they are not 'unequal' intellectually, and definitely not inferior. Anything that shows society agrees with that is a win for everyone.
