A real thought provoking article from Will Hutton in today's Observer.

He makes some very interesting points - the health and safety issue is certainly one that concerns me.

Strong condemnation by one of the best economic columnists in Britain.

My daughter had a chinese post grad student a few years ago and was appalled by what the girl told her. She had never left China before and had to fly here on her own, leaving behind her husband and year old baby, who she wouldn't see for another year. They were working with some radio active substances and she said it was better than China because all her hair fell out there! She was amazed to find that over here they were allowed to wear a pair of latex gloves. In her lab in China they could only afford one glove each. Why do we want to deal with these people? They have no respect for their own workers!

What the hell was Boris Johnson doing there? Presumably there is no plan to build a nuclear power station in the middle of London. George Osborne knows less about economics than he does about the rules of pelota.
