Thanks Nonu, don't know if I am deserving.
(by that I don't mean I am confused)
I’m a Pear/Apple - Part 5. Still going!!
Being asked for an honest opinion
www.independent.co.uk/news/business/news/uk-nuclear-power-enters-new-age-with-hinkley-deal--and-householders-will-be-forced-to-foot-the-bill-8893023.html How do we feel about this? Both the guaranteed high price and the fact that the Chinese are involved?
Thanks Nonu, don't know if I am deserving.
(by that I don't mean I am confused)
Deserving I like you !!!
I understood exactly what Deserving said, was it really so difficult to follow.
I agree with her post too.
Why is it so often the case when a fairly trivial comment is posted, that comment becomes the focus of the thread instead of the OP and it's point of view. It is jumped on so quickly! Is it a tactic? I do wonder at times. Also there is no consistency with the degree of 'offence taken'. Good grief I have seen far more abusive comments made and they were personal not used as a generalisation.
Thanks thatbags, will try it. bump
deserving, you can always bump a thread if you don't want it to disappear. just write 'bump' as your post and press the 'post message' button.
Phoe,
Sporadic, is my input, or is it output? I have been "on" a bit lately, mainly as an apologist it appears.Get a bit of flack, reply, then it seems that people can't understand and/or feel they are wasting their time, which is the same as giving up.
Don't want to point a finger, or be arrogant, or condescending (no doubt I've left something out ) but I haven't the time to be on consistently, I enjoy dipping in now and then, then do more than I wanted really, defending myself.I have noticed that one or two have opted out recently,I could speculate on why, but it would be only speculation and I would be opening up myself to another tirade from "the few".(yet another explanation due) I will have to adopt the stance of J2O (or is that a fruit drink)? Reply with brevity, resort to, rubbish, balderdash, gibberish, profanity and the such.
As for the name, it was appropriate at the time in relation to benefits and the proposed cessation of some of them. This was some years ago and I thought it was a title just for that item, wasn't aware I would be lumbered with it forever.I know I could change it, but it's not related to age etc, like when I'm 65, or something like that so it will remain.
My previous post, although applicable to the subject, was mainly to prevent the post from vanishing, I felt it had not been pursued fully, but it is the net that decides, and not a proportion of the members.Or am I wrong there?
By the way, and I have remarked before that what is written may easily be misinterpreted , lack of other signs etc,did you mean my posting is less, and was once more, and was my penchant related to that fact, my see saw output. Or is it my penchant to correct? I think you may mean the latter. Correct me if i'm wrong.
deserving am I right in thinking that you haven't been posting much lately, but you were quite active a while ago?
I prepare to stand corrected, something that seems to be a penchant of yours.
BTW, Is there a reason for your choice of name?
How much energy was produced this last weekend, and how many turbines were shut down for safeties sake I wonder. We are expected to get more weather of this type and the wind turbines will be even more surplus. How many "barriers" were endangered, how efficient would they have been in storms of that nature,
Not the only lecturer then.
A lot of '"probably ' and assumptions . One correct statement was that they elected to attend, nothing about it being necessary. Had a good relationship with those that attended, and who would be arrogant enough to assume they were the only source of any information?
As for spectrum, can't see that this net covers the spectrum, and what makes you think that I am bothered about denouements, take it or leave it.Several seem to understand sufficiently enough to automatically take an opposing view as a matter of course, it is then when wasting my time explaining,( why I bother I don't know),that they suddenly become confused. I do actually know why I bother, it's because I am magnanimous ,as you will be the first to affirm.I' am always surprised by this recent clamour of people to claim incomprehension, they seem to wear it as a badge of pride. I was taught to keep my mouth shut and find out.
On the subject, Ele, what is your view on nuclear energy? Are you like me, not going to be bothered one way or the other, but concerned for grand and great grand children? What way concerned, concerned about power not being available, or concerned about it being nuclear in origin ?
L. feel rich, understanding is something money can't buy,or is it?
Surely it would be better to keep the lights on by building a few nuclear plants, all be it with Chinese funding, that way we don't go down the road of three day weeks as in the 70's. Meanwhile, we can expand our knowledge of wind, wave, tidal and any other technology, that will preserve the planet, and leave it in a good state for our children. Yes I know there is the problem of waste from these power plants, but the scientists and engineers, need lights and power to come up with solutions.
I never presumed to understand a lot, but at least I'm not alone in being unable to understand you deserving.
(That was my extrovert side then)
If you were lecturing and not "just" teaching, then you were preaching to (well perhaps not to the converted) but to those who had elected to be at your lectures, or who knew that they were a necessary part of their course of further study.
They had probably already gone through enough experience of attending loquacious speakers to have the ability to listen to a complicated sentence and pick out the thread of it. You were also probably not the only source of their information. They would have textbooks to study and hours of concentration on obscure references behind them, sharpening their skill at rephrasing the sometimes unfocussed pronouncements of their lecturers into logic that could be followed.
You can't address a general audience such as members here in the same way. there needs to be a logic to the lecture that can be followed by all. It is not dumbing down, it is organising your material.
Those without any experience of higher education will give up if you lose them. Those who do have that experience also have the discipline of organising their own material, to present it to audiences ranging from pre-school to post-graduate level.
If both ends of the spectrum and those in the middle are all saying that your posts are often incomprehensible, could it be that the one who is out of step is not our Johnny but our Deserving?
Now, is there anyone who did not follow any of that?
L, shy EXtrovert is a contradiction surely? Nothing shy about accusing someone of rambling, Think you that it might be that you don't understand as much as you thought you did.We all have extrovert and introvert tendencies, often one is dominant but it can change. I don't present myself as superior J M, thats your interpretation, and try mumbling under HER breath. Ele, you may be partially correct, I do tend to think faster than I can write and definitely faster than I can type. You are wrong about communicating, I lectured. Assuming the standard retiring age for women, I retired probably 10 years before you.Mind reading may not be a common skill, prognostication appears to be so.I am not aware of the point anyone has reached on the SMOG grade, and am apparently relying too much on the previous knowledge of the reader and the ability to do a little detective work.
It is obvious that many of those reading have "brains".You would have,it being a requisite, very good brains as is noticeable,The problem with specialisation is that much other is sacrificed. Knowing more and more about less and less, has its uses definitely, but we need input from the more general minded people Whose input is not limited and can emphasise more elements.
Lizg, Things must have changed ,I think, and would warrant that it was for the better. It has been the delay that has been the problem. Not wanting to excite the O......d & t.........s or even in your case ,worry those who are/were not comfortable with even the microwave. We are going to regret this, and soon.
Deserving your brain runs ahead of your typing. I don't think your work involves (or has involved as I feel you have retired) communicating ideas to others? Those reading your posts have brains too, and some of them are very good, but mind-reading is not a common skill.
Nice post lizg
Deserving you sometimes present yourself as superior in some way. Your written style undermines this stance - it's like trying to understand when someone is mumbling to himself under his breath. But yes, your last sentence is a valid point.
I have tried to read through this whole thread and find myself agreeing with deserving's final sentence; we have needed atomic energy for a couple of decades. Whatever action is undertaken has to be a long term strategy and not something put together on the back of a fag packet (for the green toed amongst us, an e-cigarette packet). Therefore decisions cannot and must not be rushed.
The building of a nuclear energy plant is not something to be taken lightly but as wind farms are inadequate, barrage systems possibly hazardous to the environment, we are left with no option. I am not at all concerned with how the plants are, and have been, run in this country and I think you may be surprised just how great Chinese involvement has been for a good many years. Nuclear technology has been a worldwide venture for many years.
Nuclear anything used to frighten me; I would not even walk into a room with a microwave oven! So to face my fears I worked as (just a) secretary in a Nuclear Technology company. It was a fascinating but I came away feeling that the issue was in good hands. Mind you this was 15 years ago things might have changed I suppose.
Maybe you have to keep making explanations deserving because most of what you write sounds like gobbledegook.
Stop rambling, write simply and clearly and then members can discuss your points.
Explanations( for those that need them) Eric is Eric Morcambe, You may remember the famous sketch, if not it is lost on you. Distinguish that relates to those with the ability to decipher from a few written words, the intonation of those words the expression on the face of the writer, and the stance they are adopting, (hands on hips, one finger in the air, type of thing) Oh I give up, it seems that to have to explain so much to so few, Oh thats the start of some other great, well known saying, that may need explaining , seems pointless, just try to keep up.Only three or four acolytes as yet, needs thirteen for a coven.
Back to the subject, we have needed atomic energy for a couple of decades, it may be to late now.
or gangrene?
Is this related to green thumbs?
Oh come Anno, punctuation, please. Surely it is green, open-toed brigade. The people are green, their toes are open....
Disgusted, Tunbridge Wells. (I haven't forgotten).
I was feeling a bit worried about my green toes, but it's rather comforting to know I belong to a 'brigade'.
I love the idea of the "green open toed brigade". As opposed to the blue ones with webbed feet?
I find you incoherent in the extreme deserving with your stream of consciousness style of post.
You obviously just enjoy being unpleasant.
