What is it with the Windsors?

First of all they put the poor child – born, please note, in the twenty-first century – in a ^replica (not even the original) of the christening robe first made for Princess Vicky (born 1840). Then he is christened with water from the River Jordan. What kind of superstition is that about? And how clean is any river water? And he has no fewer than seven godparents. Are they all going to see to his spiritual welfare? Yeah – oink flap.

Then the media like to tell us that the Cambridges wish to lead as normal a life as possible.

Oh Nonu - respect!!

bluebell Sun 10-Nov-13 19:17:54

No right of reply? Now remind me - how many green ink letters does Charles write to Government Ministers? How many confidential meetings does he have with them? You are right, they are not part of our democracy - they have far too much unaccountable power. And it was a really tacky, WAGGY robe!!

Nonu Sun 10-Nov-13 19:15:10

Not totally none of our business niggly , don"t we support them with our tax dollars ?

LizG Sun 10-Nov-13 19:14:16

sad

bluebell Sun 10-Nov-13 19:13:44

Liz, if its not Carol M, its one of her friends. :D

LizG Sun 10-Nov-13 19:09:57

Oh dear, I feel duly chastised. Does this mean I am no longer allowed to hold an opinion? I admiired everything about the christening other than the gown. I admire most of what the Royals do and most of them but I did not like the gown.

nigglynellie Sun 10-Nov-13 19:00:14

Of course you have the right to comment on anything you like, but there is a big difference between commenting and being downright vindictive and rude, particularly over the christening garment of a young couples child. None of your business!! Incidentally the family concerned clearly don't live in this 'democracy' as they have no right of reply and have to take all this hurtful rubbish on the chin and if they've any sense ignore it for the nonsense it is - not always easy I imagine when it's constant!

need2search Sun 10-Nov-13 18:40:27

Ooh, nigglelynellie! I so agree with you!.

Well done. smile

bluebell Sun 10-Nov-13 18:38:27

Funnily enough nigglynellie, I was under the clearly mistaken impression that we lived in a sort of half hearted democracy that sort of accepts a half hearted freedom of speech that gives me EVERY right to criticise any aspect of the royals life that I wish

Ana Sun 10-Nov-13 18:34:12

hmm

Hannoona Sun 10-Nov-13 18:31:32

Is that you Carol?

Ceesnan Sun 10-Nov-13 18:21:54

grin

nigglynellie Sun 10-Nov-13 18:14:13

Honestly, why all this constant knocking of the royal family! let's face it they can't do right for doing wrong! FGS it's absolutely NOTHING to do with any of us how a young couple baptise THEIR child, what garment that child wears or how many godparents they choose. What gives ANY of you the right to criticise that garment, who cares whether YOU think it's hideous or beautiful or what - Actually it's none of your business any more than YOUR business is anything to do with them. These personal criticisms are hurtful, unkind and just plain HORRID.

I thought he looked adorable in his Christening outfit and I really do like the tradition of it all.

As for the ladies on the day - they looked rather lovely also.

I hope your daughter has sucessful IVF Anniebach.I love the idea of the Welsh water.

I never knew that about the Jordan water Absent.

Lilygran Thu 31-Oct-13 07:36:04

Rupert Murdoch's baby - the one Tony Blair is a godfather to - was actually baptised IN the Jordan. No bottled water for him!

absent Wed 30-Oct-13 19:10:28

I suspect that the Windsors have water from the River Jordan for baptisms because Queen Victoria was convinced that her family was descended from King David (as in the Bible not as in Scotland).

Anniebach Wed 30-Oct-13 14:55:46

Hadn't thought of that Oldgreymare - duh. She is in Lincolnshire, seems a long way to get their water.

thatbags, it is blessed in the font but water is water and I very much doubt the good lord has a two tier system - the blessed and not blessed water lot. Come to think of it, my grampa was a baptist minister and he plunged his flock in the river

I think the windsors have water from the Jordon because it is a family tradition,

thatbags Wed 30-Oct-13 14:32:04

It doesn't have to be blessed, does it? I was taught that I could baptise with any old water when I was a wee kid.

Never had to, but how dire if I was misinformed!

Oldgreymare Wed 30-Oct-13 10:23:15

Depends where she lives Anniebach, it could be Welsh water in the taps smile

Anniebach Wed 30-Oct-13 09:38:44

We are equal before God pink princess, just not equal in the Anglican Church,
Makes no difference where the water is from, it has to be blessed .

My younger daughter has moved to England, if she ever does have successful IVF and the baby is Baptised in England she wants Welsh bottled water to fill the font smile
