What is it with the Windsors?

First of all they put the poor child – born, please note, in the twenty-first century – in a ^replica (not even the original) of the christening robe first made for Princess Vicky (born 1840). Then he is christened with water from the River Jordan. What kind of superstition is that about? And how clean is any river water? And he has no fewer than seven godparents. Are they all going to see to his spiritual welfare? Yeah – oink flap.

Then the media like to tell us that the Cambridges wish to lead as normal a life as possible.

a quick apology here, if Gracesmum felt I was having a go at her - I wasn't. For some reason, my quick comment came out of sequence. Hers was the last post when I read this thread - it's timed at 12.43 and mine at 18.54. I thought it was odd that there had been no other comments in that time span. My comment was meant to be supportive to Gracesmum, but on re-reading I can see it could be read differently. For clarity, I didn't see any of Gracesmum's comments as personal attacks on this thread, I was concerned that she had been on the receiving end of personal attacks which I felt to be undeserved.

I hope they boiled the baptismal Jordan water - there have been many reports in recent years about its pollution and some groups that practise immersion adult baptism have stopped doing it there.

Keeps 'em off the streets though, susieb....The vicars, I mean. grin

susieb755 Mon 11-Nov-13 20:17:33

Its all irrelevant nonsense any way , there is no such thing as infant baptism in the bible.. or holy water..or vicars come to that !

Iam64 Mon 11-Nov-13 18:54:57

Oh yes graces mum - do let's move on. There was an understandable misunderstanding. Tegan's post at 12.39 is another well expressed plea to start again. Heated discussions, great, personal attacks, not so great.

PS - The Queen's Knickers was one of our kids' books of the month last year. And The Royal Nappy this year. We're clearly all about the royal smalls

Too busy eating cupcake to moderate??? hiswuvhdepijcd

Sorry - crumbs in keyboard again.

On FB last week my DS snapped at me when I commented on a comment. "Wasn't talking to you!!!" she snapped. I just wonder why the comment box is called a comment box if we are not allowed to comment. Explained to her that if someone comments publicly and there is a comment box to reply then they should expect comments, agreeing or not agreeing. So There!!!! hmm

Writing a comment on a public forum thread is not "interfering". Just saying.

Eloethan Mon 11-Nov-13 13:24:07

Hanoona - have the grace to accept the apology and give it a rest please.

I love lace too and am very pleased some people still have the skill to make it. I thought the christening gown was hideous. Those two thinks/feelings are not mutually exclusive. Nor need anyone take offence or be surprised that I think/feel/say them.

Hanoona - your joke was very funny. flowers

And it reminded me of a time on Mumsnet when someone said, in all innocence, "is that you (someone)" (can't remember the name now)

I'm having my cup of cold tea and read this thread with my jaw dropping. I love lace and felt so proud that there are still people who can replicate those skills as I believe the original one is too fragile to be worn by today's sturdy babies. I also remember my SIL seeing a photo of DH in his christening robe embroidered by his godmother saying "what's with the dress."some of us like lace some don't . And to pm people about it........Yikes.

Hanoona Gracesmum apologised, for heaven's sake.

Tegan Do you mean Kat, Cari and Co are too busy eating cupcaketo moderate? I thought that's what they were there forconfused

Flowerofthewest Mon 11-Nov-13 12:43:33

Bought a book once entitled 'The Queen's Knickers' probably still available on Amazon.

gracesmum Mon 11-Nov-13 12:43:04

I thought I had said I was sorry for not making it clear that it was Nigglynellie who talked about being "vindictive, hurtful and plain horrid" not Hanoona. I was a bit shaken by Hanoona's reference to Carol. At no time have I told anybody to "bile their heid" or accused them of being anything like "downright nasty".
Can we move on now please?

Tegan Mon 11-Nov-13 12:39:35

Hannoona; we don't actually have mods on this forum, it's sort of self regulating [something that I disagree with; I feel that, like other forums I'm on there should be moderators]. Please understand as well that, after the events of the past few weeks a lot of us are feeling somewhat sensitive about certain issues so, as a new member please try to understand. We're all a bit raw at the moment. Lets all just start again flowers?

The mighty ones had been working all weekend and were clearly not switched to high alert in a befittingly mighty manner. This has been rectified <collectively hang heads> <thanks heaven for black coffee>
