Quite!

It seems some people don't understand that their having freedom means other people have freedom too, including the freedom to be different.

Freedom of worship in this country I hope (although I'm not sure some extreme versions of thuggi or maya should be allowed)

The university concerned is South Bank. Well over half of the students are mature and about 60% are from ethnic minorities. Most come from the Borough and from some surrounding boroughs. This makes it a very different place from the more traditional universities. And consequently there are tensions and issues there which other places do not face.

Now, of course, banning anything will always be counter productive because as soon as something is banned it creates the desire to see it and makes people take sides.

The poster is not offensive just rather obvious. And even if someone in the union hierarchy thought they didn't like it, those who displayed it should not be subject to the whims and prejudices of those who find it distasteful.

Perhaps those who achieve - or have thrust upon them - office in the students' union, should have to take a preliminary course in law and the proper use of office.

Stansgran - Not tentacles - noodly appendages.

Personally I think the FSM is insulting to the Invisible Pink Unicorn (may her hooves never be shod)...

Once upon a time… Ana. I'd forgotten the great god Straight As.

Ana Mon 10-Feb-14 18:21:04

Not necessarily intelligent, absent. They may have managed to achieve the requisite A levels...

absent Mon 10-Feb-14 18:14:43

I thought students were meant to be intelligent people. Yes, it is absurd, but worrying too.

Stansgran Mon 10-Feb-14 18:07:37

Seem to have lost capital letters.

Stansgran Mon 10-Feb-14 18:06:26

Wish I hadn't seen it. Anything with tentacles gives me nightmares. Going to take me weeks to get over the japanese wood block print described in the Times as one of the best animal prints. Love japanese wood block prints . I just WISH I hadn't read the description. They didn't have the nerve to print the picture. Thank goodness.
We had a print of the creation outside the science lab at school. We had to queue up alongside it .i think that was all we got on sex education and a copy of rodin's thinker.

Don't care! Goes with my eccentric image. Think I'll have my hair done in a purple Mohican as well

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 10-Feb-14 17:26:52

(you will look silleeee! grin)

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 10-Feb-14 17:26:10

Yes. Would make a lovely target. Back or front Galen? smile

Galen Mon 10-Feb-14 17:25:52

Found one! Ordered

Galen Mon 10-Feb-14 17:22:57

I want a FSM T shirt.
Be nice for summer (if we get one) archery.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 10-Feb-14 17:22:10

I think these days, when a huge debt follows attendance at uni, students might just be realising exactly what uni is for.

We can hope.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 10-Feb-14 17:20:45

I used to find Bags's Flying Spaghetti Monster offensive. Until I got bored by it.

Give 'em time.

mollie Mon 10-Feb-14 17:10:33

But this has been recognised as an official religion in some places and allowed on driving licences and official ID!

Ana Mon 10-Feb-14 16:29:57

I googled to find out what you meant, Bags.

Another ridiculous image banning in a British university. Students' unions have forgotten what universities are for. sad
