Any other GNs out there who would like to see Maria Miller sacked over the latest "second home" debacle. Will these flagrant abuses of expenses never end?

rosequartz Wed 16-Apr-14 08:15:05

I am thinking about the ballot box and wondering about taking DGD2's crayons and scribbling all over my paper.

Perhaps if everyone did that ....

geeljay Wed 16-Apr-14 00:41:46

Well don't forget to use the ballot box when it comes to be. We do seem to have a bunch of wretched politicians, There seem only a handful who have the integrity that should go with leadership. Maria Miller displays all the traits that makes them a despicable, gutless bunch.

durhamjen Wed 16-Apr-14 00:16:35

Are hardworking politicians the same as the hardworking families that drink beer and play bingo? Making hay while the sun shines reminds me that many of them are farmers and get lots of benefits from the CAP.
Should the CAP payments be capped?

rosequartz Tue 15-Apr-14 20:25:07

Quite a few cliches there now I read my last post!!

rosequartz Tue 15-Apr-14 20:24:30

They're all in it together, durhamjen.

Pigs, snouts and troughs. Hardworking politicians busy making hay while the sun shines.

Had a lot of choice about where to put this link. This appears to be the most appropriate thread, I think.

Her assistant reminded the reporter that Maria Miller was involved in how the press was going to be regulated. This was construed by some to be a veiled threat - that is, if you start poking around asking questions, remember that Maria Miller has it in her power to make life difficult for you and your colleagues.

Maria Miller said her assistant mentioned Leveson in relation to inappropriate intrusion into private life (doorstepping her father when it appears he had just come out of hospital), and not as a threat. But the actual words the assistant used could give rise to other, less worthy, interpretations: And Maria has obviously been having quite a lot of editors’ meetings around Leveson at the moment. So I am just going to flag up that connection for you to think about.” (the conversation had been recorded)

Ana Thu 10-Apr-14 18:20:30

No, I think it's what Maria Miller's assistant said, POGS...

POGS Thu 10-Apr-14 17:49:30

Oh I see. The last paragraph is supposedly what Maria Miller's father said. blush

What had he had removed.

rosequartz Thu 10-Apr-14 17:08:03

Speaking gobbledygook myself - I mean assistants

rosequartz Thu 10-Apr-14 17:01:30

I don't think it makes any sense, Pogs! Presumably MP's assjstants take a course in gobbledygook! .

And if I hear Cameron say 'hardworking families' again I'm going to thcream and thcream 'till I'm thick.

POGS Thu 10-Apr-14 16:42:22

Anna

It has been reported that she is giving the £17.000 she will get for resigning to a local charity in her constituency.

Eloathan.

I don't understand your last paragraph.

Eloethan Thu 10-Apr-14 01:19:53

Yes, many from all the parties were guilty of milking the system but there were also notable exceptions from all parties.

However, I think what makes this government particularly hypocritical is that it constantly talks about the misuse of taxpayers' money and presents itself as the saviour of "hardworking families". It has cut spending by squeezing public services and pushing forward privatisation - and by targetting the poor.

Maria Miller held a ministerial position but, by all accounts, she used every trick in the book to obstruct the investigation, and her assistant's comments to the press could be construed as an attempt to shut down press interest:

“I should just flag up as well, while you’re on it that when she doorstepped him, she got Maria’s father, who’s just had a [removed] and come out of [removed]. And Maria has obviously been having quite a lot of editors’ meetings around Leveson at the moment. So I am just going to flag up that connection for you to think about.”

Cooper feathered her own nest at the same time as enforcing the Pathfinder project to demolish people's homes.

hypocrital double standards comes to mind.

POGS Wed 09-Apr-14 17:51:39

As I have posted on the other thread re MP's expenses, I will ask the question on here.

What about the 'flipping of homes' that the likes of Ed Balls and Yvette Cooper, Alistair Darling and co. did. They gained thousands to purchase properties, the same as Maria Miller in accordance with the Allowance System. Should they not have all been asked to resign at the time, which ever party they belonged to?

Balls, Cooper, Miller, Darling etc.were using the Allowance System accordingly but they were knowingly feathering their nests. What a pity John Mann didn't ask for resignations at the time of the scandal in 2009.

I am not standing up for Maria Miller but I hate the hypocrisy of all this. It has been sickening to see the hypocrites who shafted the tax payer and got away with it calling for her to be hung out to dry. Yes it is selective memory loss when the finger is only pointed at one person and one party. I'll give em their due, they are a thick skinned bunch of shallowness.

Ana Wed 09-Apr-14 17:18:01

I wonder whether she'll turn down the £17,000 she's entitled to after resigning?

Mishap Wed 09-Apr-14 16:24:29

I would resign if I could walk away with all that dosh!

I really have no sympathy at all - we need to weed out the rotten apples and aim for people with true integrity in positions of responsibility.

PRINTMISS Wed 09-Apr-14 16:21:13

Quite, Stansgran, who else could get away with all that profit?

Stansgran Wed 09-Apr-14 10:29:05

But she's kept her loot.

GillT57 Wed 09-Apr-14 10:18:41

I think I am more concerned about David Cameron's support of her than I am about her deceit, arrogance and fraud. Shocking lack of judgement. And, I dont want her bleating on about being a working mother, we all are, but we dont steal from our employers.

Eloethan Wed 09-Apr-14 10:03:46

Yes, she's resigned but David Cameron has apparently said he "hopes she can make a return in the future".

Nelliemoser Wed 09-Apr-14 08:18:34

Yes! Just heard the good news. What is more worrying is that she thought she could get away with it which shows a lack of political nous.grin The public protests as well as those from her own party have made a difference.

John Humphreys is chewing it over with Michael Gove right now.

grin

tanith Wed 09-Apr-14 08:02:23

About time.

JessM Wed 09-Apr-14 07:32:24

She's resigned. The only way she was going to avoid this was by repaying the whole £40k.
Interesting that neither she nor Cameron saw this from their entitled ivory tower. More lack of judgement on Cameron's part. The man who appointed Coulson.

durhamjen Wed 09-Apr-14 00:17:11

Jackie Smith was voted out by her constituents. I would imagine Maria Miller will be in a year's time if she does not leave of her own accord.
I think Jackie Smith is a lawyer, so would be a good person to head a hospital trust. It's all getting far too complex these days, and they need lawyers to make sure they do not get sold off to the private sector.
