PM appoints bankrupt to manage public funds

I'm completely cynical about the rampant cronyism no matter what the party. I mean, Blair appointed his mate, Alaistair Campbell. From reading Campbell's book, the decision was made after a brief conversation on a car journey. And then Campbell's partner became Cherie' s adviser! Also a 'dinner party appointment'. Nice money if you can get it.

I have to admit that I was offered a job at a dinner party after I had retired. I did turn up for an interview on the appointed day but it was more of a chat to discuss terms and conditions.

The person who appointed me overheard a conversation with my ex boss, saying that I was bored and could do with extra cash as I was not yet receiving the state pension, only my work pension. That was a one/off in my life. I was fortunate to have training and skills which were in short supply.

Why is it surprising that the DM ran this story. They have a go at everyone.

Never forget that it was the DM who didn't give up until ' some' of the killers of Steven Laurance we're put behind bars.

Yes they do have a history of investigative journalism but DM not known for its left wing or centrist political views is it
I agree Blair probably equally into appointing cronies - it is what they get used to with ministerial appointments. Campbell was appointed to Blair's team in similar role to Coulson - but he was not such a bad choice as Coulson (currently on trial Coulson) was he?

The problem comes when they are lucrative and responsible jobs that are not political ones. They should not be in the PM's gift should they?

As I read it this chap was given a seat on the gravy train, oh sorry, I meant to say, seat on a quango while Labour were in power.
Call me a synic, but does anyone else, besides me remember another person by the name of Caplin close to the seat of government. Probably just a coincidence.

Abolish quangos and cronyism. Bring back 'Yes Minister' .

At least he had the decency to resign quietly when it was discovered that he was bankrupt.

Point is the rules say he should have disclosed this when it happened. Wouldn't take much of a wit to work that one out would it - in charge of a committee that has control over large amounts of public money. You are not allowed to be a school governor if you are a bankrupt! Or, I think, a trustee of a tiny charity.
