They are usually contrite when they've been found out.

Top Gear was ok a few years back, but now it's like looking in on a bunch of overgrown schoolboys sniggering at an in-joke. Jeremy Clarkson might be contrite, but he won't stop shooting his mouth off - that's his stock in trade. Overpaid and over-accommodated.

I don't hate him. It just infuriates me that people like him are being paid loads of money for having no particular talent and who insult and upset others into the bargain.

Tb, hate Clarkson and his mates? No, as an old chap I feel sad and embarrassed to see intelligent rich middle-aged men clowning about in such a boorish inconsiderate manner. The first time it might have been funny, but the n-th time it is just loutish. I was a testosterone-fueled youth and did many things I'm ashamed to think about. I like to think I grew up.

So recognise him as a prat (or them as prats), don't watch their programme, and stop moaning. Millions of people do like their programme and it doesn't do any harm.

Nah not 'hating on' at all. Just recognising him for the prat that he is. I think he's like an overgrown schoolboy but it's become a bit sad in a middle aged man. And if they're examples of 'real men' then I don't want one thanks very much.

Hehe! You lot are so easy to wind up. Clarkson takes the piss out of everything and everywhere and people take offence instead of just seeing him as the deliberately provocative clown he is.

I don't think testosterone fuelled young men breaking the law when driving can be blamed on anyone but themselves. Here's a question: have road accidents increased as a result of the TV programme Top Gear? I bet the police would have something to say if there had been a statistically significant increase since TG was first aired.

What is going on here, again, is what teenagers call "hating on" someone. I would have thought most of us had grown out of that.

I find a lot of jokes and comments about Birmingham funny. It depends on who is saying it and in what context.

He did a spoof travel sketch about Rotherham a long time ago. He began his career there working on the Rotherham Advertiser. I have to admit it was very funny, fond though I am of Rotherham and despite the fact I think he's a prat. I'm sure it's out there somewhere in YouTube, must have a look.

No I didn't hear that one nightowl but can imagine judging by what he said about Brum.

Never liked Clarkson since he made disparaging remarks about my home city (Birmingham) after just one visit.

Now that's sexist. And the comments at the bottom show just how women are still perceived by some people.

I like cars but I wouldn't look for information on TG.

Choking on my tea at the accusation of sexism thatbags TG has precious little to do with cars IMO and everything to do with overblown egos.

Hmm - a difficult one bags - I agree they are playing their games away from public roads - they would not be allowed to do otherwise. But it does encourage an unhealthy view of cars as speed toys amongst testosterone-fuelled young men, which they then play out on the public roads.

There are lots of other blokey things that they could do. And it is no good looking back to that wonderful era when men were men etc. - cars now are a very different kettle of fish - much more powerful and faster; and yes, also in many ways much safer - but the pedestrian or cyclist who falls foul of modern cars is pretty doomed.

If these men choose to treat cars as speed toys and kill themselves, so be it. But it might be me or mine who cop it - not so good.

What's wrong with a programme showing blokes doing blokey things or rather the kind of blokey things blokes used to do.

The technology and the science TG covers is why some women like it. I thought I'd mentioned that already.

I think he's a creep as well Mishap. I don't even find him witty or amusing. I quite like the other two, but he brings out the worst in all of them.

I think it's pretty obvious why it's so popular - grown men living out every man's schoolboy fantasies and being acclaimed for it. That's not a criticism of men, I'm sure some women hang on to schoolgirl fantasies as well. I have no idea why some women find TG entertaining though, unless it's because they feel an indulgent affection for little boys.

And producing a very popular Show that some people find tiresome.
So don't watch it. I presume TVs can still be turned off?

When they drive "dangerously" no-one else is put in danger. Most of it is on emptied roads or on an airfield. They are not advocating dangerous day-to-day driving. They are testing vehicles' capabilities and enjoying the technology and the science of it all.
