Yes very sad, he was only 70.

I remember watching the Beagle 2 thing over Christmas when it disappeared and didn't land on Mars.

OMG shock I've just checked when that was ..... surely not 2003!

I don't have a scientific brain either but he always seemed to be able to explain things so the rest of us could understand. I also loved that he never tried to lose his Bristol accent.

Someone phoned into the local radio this morning and said he had grown up with him and that he was always brighter than the other kids, he said that a couple of days before Bonfire Night, Colin would be on the local piece of waste ground testing his home made rockets and that he had a scar under one eye as a result of one of those experiments going wrong!!

I am first to admit I am not very scientifically minded, goes over my head.

I am saddened to hear he has died as I always think of him as a good person who didn't give off an air of smugness or cockyness. He just seemed normal, if that's not patronising in a funny way. I was alway's interested in what he had to say because of that.

What an interesting life he had.
