When will this end?

I saw a small report in a newspaper about the gang rapes and murder of two young cousins last week. Now another young woman has suffered the same fate.

Isn't this a country that we support with substantial monetary aid?

Why isn't our government applying pressure for the Indian government to get to grip with this.

I for one am going to email David Cameron and express my horror at this barbarism.
another gang rape and murder in India
I'd like to think other GNetters would do likewise angry sad angry

I was also saddened and felt despair when I read of yet another rape and hanging in India.

I believe that the financial aid to India is due to end in 2015.

I think that what the Indian people themselves are doing is the right thing by letting the world at large know what is happening in their country by using social media; even political leaders and parts of the population won't like their dirty linen aired in public so I'm hoping more and more condemnation is ladled onto them enough for things to start changing.

I know India well, we go there for the winter.

Its a totally male dominated society. The way the lower communities are treated... we would not treat a dog like that here,
Apart from the gang rape in Delhi, the other rapes are in totally rural areas, once on a train from Calcutta to Delhi i got chatting with a fellow passenger, he said ''Do you know in some of the countryside, people have not seen a train , never mind a decent road, and yes I believe that.

The aid money given by UK went straight into back pockets, its been like that for the last 12 years at least.

Now there is a new party in power , and its not a coalition, they have outright charge, but you cant change a juggernaut on a sixpence.

BTW Juggernaut is an Indian word, and it is a carriage on wheels, weighing many tons to pull the gods round the temple on an auspicious day.

The gods will be bedecked with gold, jewels and sparkle , and the people will flock to them for a blessing

It is impossible to get one's head around all this and I find it unreadable. At least it is now out in the open and hopefully international pressure will mean something. What can one say?

jollyg Fri 13-Jun-14 10:00:11

I agree, however International pressure means nothing in rural India , its the zamindars who rule along with the police

Eloethan Fri 13-Jun-14 11:09:23

From next year aid will no longer be given to India by the UK.

HollyDaze Fri 13-Jun-14 12:57:58

I'd already said that!

What I can't get out of my head is the fear, pain and humiliation these young girls suffered.

To be perfectly well and living your life one minute and then to be set upon, gang raped and hanged and be utterly helpless and at the mercy of these bastards doesn't bear thinking about.

Notso Fri 13-Jun-14 17:34:16

Wasn't there a report somewhere that the two young girls found raped and hanged together were so-called 'honour killings' by family members?

Aka Fri 13-Jun-14 22:56:01

No that wasn't the case. In fact there is a piece by one of the mothers in this weeks Time magazine. In it there was a photo of the two girls and they were described as cousins aged 12 & 14.

That report was in the DM.

We cannot understand the mind of some Indians, mind you , others are so sophisticated and cultured, you would not believe they belong to the same nation.

A site I often pop into is www.thedelhiwalla.com.

Todays blog might give you some insight into life of the people of Delhi.

Its a hard life being a rickshaw wallah when the streets are clogged with cars and 2 wheelers, and fume ridden too
