On Saturday my husband and I attended the People's Assembly's March Against Austerity in Central London. The estimated number attending was 50,000, which you would imagine would receive some coverage in newspapers and on TV. There was virtually nothing.
Childish nastiness does rear its head I have found, especially when polarised views on politics are being discussed. I for one am always impressed, and relieved when people like Jen and Eleothan (for example) keep their cool, and substantiate their points of view with evidence, rather than resorting to the kind of unpleasant comments we all heard in playgrounds
And I'd absolutely love to know what causes certain posters on this thread do believe in and how they support them. Answers please on the back of a postage stamp
I really don't think it reasonable that jendurham should be made to feel she has to justify why she cannot go on a march. There were several older and disabled people that I spoke to prior to the event who indicated their support but whose mobility difficulties prevented them from joining us.
I consider myself fairly fit (touch wood), but it was certainly tiring standing for nearly two hours to wait for the actual march to commence and then to walk from Portland Place to Parliament Square on what was a pretty hot day. It would have been exhausting to do all this on top of travelling down from another part of the country and returning home the same day.
I said yesterday I've done my fair share of marching. I have spent today at the Freeman Hospital having CT scans to find out if my aortic dissection has got better or worse and to find out if I need an operation. I do not know yet, obviously. I cannot walk far enough or fast enough to go on marches any more. It takes me all my effort to get home from the village when I take my granddaughter to school in the mornings as it is uphill all the way on the way back. I then have to lie down for ten minutes. The NHS will not let me join a walking group as the people who run them will not be able to help if anything happens as they do not know sufficient about my condition.
I do hope you can manage to read all this, Ana.
That's why I give money and disseminate information from a chair these days.
The People's Assembly is planning the biggest march ever before the end of the year. For those interested, keep an eye on their homepage. www.thepeoplesassembly.org.uk/
Three times Nonu as stated on the news - and in the interview with the England manager (he is the one that stated Suarez needs professional psychiatric help). Personally, I'd just stick him on the bench until he learns to play nicely. I was a footie fan btw.
" siobs 1). It is something you say when referring to a total reject, or idiot. Normally, this is not a term one would hear in civilised conversation."
