Or rather "not in the news"

On Saturday my husband and I attended the People's Assembly's March Against Austerity in Central London. The estimated number attending was 50,000, which you would imagine would receive some coverage in newspapers and on TV. There was virtually nothing.

Well said Iam.

Childish nastiness does rear its head I have found, especially when polarised views on politics are being discussed. I for one am always impressed, and relieved when people like Jen and Eleothan (for example) keep their cool, and substantiate their points of view with evidence, rather than resorting to the kind of unpleasant comments we all heard in playgrounds

GrannyTwice Thu 26-Jun-14 01:08:09

And I'd absolutely love to know what causes certain posters on this thread do believe in and how they support them. Answers please on the back of a postage stamp

Jen and Eleothan -why do you persist in behaving in such a mature way in the face of such childish nastiness?

I really don't think it reasonable that jendurham should be made to feel she has to justify why she cannot go on a march. There were several older and disabled people that I spoke to prior to the event who indicated their support but whose mobility difficulties prevented them from joining us.

I consider myself fairly fit (touch wood), but it was certainly tiring standing for nearly two hours to wait for the actual march to commence and then to walk from Portland Place to Parliament Square on what was a pretty hot day. It would have been exhausting to do all this on top of travelling down from another part of the country and returning home the same day.

Indeed, as do we all Ana

I'll bet you've done your bit.

I said yesterday I've done my fair share of marching. I have spent today at the Freeman Hospital having CT scans to find out if my aortic dissection has got better or worse and to find out if I need an operation. I do not know yet, obviously.
I cannot walk far enough or fast enough to go on marches any more.
It takes me all my effort to get home from the village when I take my granddaughter to school in the mornings as it is uphill all the way on the way back. I then have to lie down for ten minutes.
The NHS will not let me join a walking group as the people who run them will not be able to help if anything happens as they do not know sufficient about my condition.

I do hope you can manage to read all this, Ana.

That's why I give money and disseminate information from a chair these days.

Ana Wed 25-Jun-14 22:39:48

Oh, I must have missed that - yes, I'm sure she does indeed give support to causes she believes in in other ways. As we all do, I expect...

thatbags Wed 25-Jun-14 22:33:58

I think jen said she couldn't manage marches any more but that she gives support to causes she believes in in other ways.

Ana Wed 25-Jun-14 22:31:57

Surely something so important should be a 'commitment' if one feels so strongly about it? hmm

Nonu Wed 25-Jun-14 22:29:03

I hope Jen can make it , let us know how it goes !

Sometimes one finds commitments get in the way of THINGS.

Nonu Wed 25-Jun-14 22:22:30

Come on Jingle get with the programme , sharp intake of breath

Ana Wed 25-Jun-14 21:53:50

Will you be joining them, durhamjen?

durhamjen Wed 25-Jun-14 21:41:18

The People's Assembly is planning the biggest march ever before the end of the year. For those interested, keep an eye on their homepage.

Three times Nonu as stated on the news - and in the interview with the England manager (he is the one that stated Suarez needs professional psychiatric help). Personally, I'd just stick him on the bench until he learns to play nicely. I was a footie fan btw.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 25-Jun-14 21:33:55

Oh no! It apparently means "sharp intake of breath"!!!

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 25-Jun-14 21:32:06

It's the third timer he's done it. (nutter)

BTW!!!

copied from Urban Dictionary:

" siobs
1). It is something you say when referring to a total reject, or idiot. Normally, this is not a term one would hear in civilised conversation."

shock Norty Nonu!

Nonu Wed 25-Jun-14 21:27:31

To my reckoning, and I am not a footie fan, when have the players BITTEN another player ?

So in my estimation that is news
!
Tell me how many times have you know of this occurrence ??

HollyDaze Wed 25-Jun-14 21:24:39

And breathe .....

Nonu Wed 25-Jun-14 21:21:45

For how long??

HollyDaze Wed 25-Jun-14 21:21:16

Nonu - as it's the third time he's done it, is it really classed as news? How many times does something have to happen before it stops being news?

HollyDaze Wed 25-Jun-14 21:20:04

SIOB

And hold....... wink grin

Nonu Wed 25-Jun-14 21:19:00

In fact I would go as far as to say, I think it is disgraceful,

He should be banned !

Nonu Wed 25-Jun-14 21:16:39

SURAEZ,biting another player for the third time I think is worth media attention
