so I hope they will now prove themselves more than capable of doing a good job

I'm rather hoping the men will do the same!

Exactly roseq it's very condescending isn't it?There should be more women in the cabinet and I don't want it reduced to a Miss World contest.

I suspect that when there are more women, and they cease to be a novelty, in politics, it will stop rosesarered - it just highlights that even though the media are 'heralding' the arrival of more women into Downing Street, yet they are still treating those women as though their appearance and whether they have children or not is more important than what their skill sets are.

HollyDaze I like the way you put Comments in italics but is there any chance you might on the off chance mention the name of the poster?

I have to go up and down still !!

grin

In fact, I think there should only be more women in the cabinet if they have the ability, so I hope they will now prove themselves more than capable of doing a good job. Let's hope we don't have constant pictures in the media of their clothes, their hairstyles and whether or not they have house-husbands, children, nannies or whatever!

Who are the new men in the Cabinet? Are we going to get a catwalk of all of them, where they bought their suits, shirts, whether their ties are pure silk and how they tie them (Eton knot?), whether they wear socks - oh, was that a flash of suspender we saw? shock

What size is Philip Hammond, a 38" or 40" chest, anyone know? Any paunches around, do they have stay-at-home wives looking after any children hmm
And the new Welsh Secretary has a BEARD shock

Sauce for the goose and all that

I'm afraid I cannot accept your apology jinglbellsfrocks because I am sort of guilty.

I thought I was making up 'Cameron's Cuties' and was rather pleased with myself. Only later did I discover the term had been around for several years.

Anyway, I was being ironic grin.

The Guardian reckons Cameron is doing it to woo the female vote.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 16-Jul-14 14:01:09

There should be a law against the press doing stuff like this. It's sexism and mysogony.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 16-Jul-14 13:59:09

Ah! You didn't make it up. Apologies.

It's really stupid. Men putting a downer on women again.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 16-Jul-14 13:57:33

Diabolical suggestion - "Cameron's Cuties" indeed! shock You have missed your calling petallus. Should be working for a red top. hmm

Shouldn't we be looking on them as capable women who have, at long last, been given the chance to prove themselves?

HollyDaze Wed 16-Jul-14 13:38:06

Why should it matter if male or female. It should be the people best fitted to the job.

It matters because unless women are brought in to the top level, they will never be able to learn to function (in politics) at a high level and it is, imo, long overdue; I tire of a male dominated world - especially when you look at the state it's in!

HollyDaze Wed 16-Jul-14 13:36:22

I don't think the media helped by referring to Downing Street as 'the catwalk'!

Although I'm irritated by the fact that women in politics is enough to become news headlines, the sad fact is it had to happen this way.

Whether the presence of women will attract votes depends, I suppose, on how well the Party does before the election. I think the fact that DC has brought in Philip Hammond, a known Euro-sceptic, is more of a vote catcher imo.

Why should it matter if male or female. It should be the people best fitted to the job. If people are voting for candidates just on the grounds of gender they don't deserve to be voting.

Oldgreymare Wed 16-Jul-14 09:59:39

Certainly not!

Granny23 Wed 16-Jul-14 09:56:22

No.

petallus Wed 16-Jul-14 09:51:50

We had Blaire's Babes. Now it looks as though we shall have Cameron's Cuties.

Is this a good thing and will it make the Conservative Party more attractive to women voters?
